"GET Windows 10" || ETERNAL - Checking for Updates

Brand new lenovo w7 pro m800 desktop.

Did all the W7 pro updates.

Internet connection is good. 30MB ISP, basic home network, no firewalls etc.

I have the white "Get W10" icon in the icon tray. I click on it and it says, "Starting download".

1. I started it last night and no progress 6 hours later.
2. Just rebooted and started it again x 3. No improvement

* RESMON shows very little network and TCP connections after 10 minutes.
* I'm convinced nothing is being downloaded

(Did a google search and found an article from a year ago saying to delete C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload
Should I try this?)

Thanks in advance!

Here is the most direct way and, in my opinion, the best way......................... Manual download iso and install.

Use this Tech Bench link and download your version of Windows 10 ISO file:

Scroll down toSelect Edition > click the pointer at the right and selectWindows 10 ( 1st one on the list )> click Confirm.
Click the pointer and select Language > make sure you pick the same language the computer is now running > click Confirm
Select the bit version, 32 or 64-bit. Make sure you select the same bit version as the computer is now running.
at the bottom, click the pointer next to Save > click Save As > navigate to a folder of your choice > click the chosen folder > clickSave
The iso will start downloading to your chosen folder.
When it is done, go to that folder > open the folder > right click at the iso file > clickMount > clickSetup.exe
Installation will begin.
It will allow you to keep you files, settings and apps.
No product key is required. ( If for some reason you are asked for product key, just click the SKIP option or the "I do not have a product key" option and continue.)
Activation will be automatic.

After successful installation and activation, you can, if you want to, burn the iso file to a bootable media, DVD or USB.
You can use it for clean install or for future reinstall.

davidhk - thanks a million!

Thanks - I'm off to the races .4 of 4.1GB downloaded in <30seconds. RESMON shows the 19Mbps network I/O !!!

I'll update when it completes the 4.1GB download

UPDATE 1.
DOWNLOAD IS 70% COMPLETE AFTER 30 MINUTES

UPDATE 2.
I think I figured it out. This is a new 64bit PC. Shipped with W7pro. ( This is replacing a 6 year lenovo 32bit PC (similar model).

* I did W7 easy transfer as soon as I completed 1st time setup.

* After registering with lenovo suppport/warranty. I went to the support page and it 'auto-detected' the PC as a 32bit machine.

Therefore, I think the w7 easy xfer created a
32/64 landmine that caused "GET W10" to hang. - Just a theory...

Thanks again!

FYI - Per your instructions...."When it is done, go to that folder > open the folder > right click at the iso file > clickMount > clickSetup.exe
Installation will begin.
"

I right click and "MOUNT"is not available in the menu.

PLEASE ADVISE.

tda43,

I made a mistake on my initial reply.
I forgot you are having a Windows 7 Pro.
For windows 7, there is no Mount option when one right clicks at the iso file.
Please use this tutorial to do manual upgrade...............
Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation

Click step 7: To Upgrade to Windows 10 with an ISO file
Then use....... C) In Windows 7, you will need to extract the files in the ISO to a new folder on your desktop, open the folder, and go to step 9 below.

Sorry about my mistake on post #2.
I apologize.

Thanks. Problem solved W10 is installing now!

Have a good weekend!

You are welcome.
Good luck.
