Can't use win 7, 8, 8.1 keys after July 29th

When Windows 10 was first released, Microsoft made it available as free upgrade for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. At first, users only had the option to upgrade their existing Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 operating system to Windows 10. With the release of Windows 10 Threshold 2 (Build 1511), Microsoft changed this cumbersome upgrade process. Threshold 2 allowed users use their existing genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 product key to clean install and activate Windows 10. But all this is going to change with the expiration of the Windows 10 Free Upgrade offer program on July 29, 2016.

Let’s see one by one, what to expect once the free upgrade offer expires. What are your options available? Will you be able to activate Windows 10 using Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 product key after July 29, 2016? How can you reinstall Windows 10 and activate it?

That's simply another spin on the free upgrade offer ending July 29th. Same story we all know, just different words. It's nothing new, just this Media Outlet trying to get attention by publishing the obvious.

Well, of course! What did you expect? The free upgrade ends at midnight July 29th. Perhaps you've heard...

I guess I misunderstood the use of the keys. I feel like an idiot. Sorry everyone.

No need to feel like an idiot or apologize - it's been confusing. It's just that the various keys are known to belong to whatever version. It seems MS is really serious about the July 29th cutoff date for the free upgrade.

No, you're not an idiot! The "media" people out there like to hype up things to spook everybody. They took the use of "key" totally out of context, so they could get your attention. That's all.

Yes it's misleading, you will still be able to use your Window's 7/8/8.1 key to activate the version it was originally intended for

True, it's just kinda funny, and predictable, how the "Talking Heads" who write those web articles like to twist and spin to get their add $$$!

I hope/assume that includes OEM 8/8.1 embedded keys, as in it stops looking for them on a clean install.
