Microsoft removes some policies from Windows 10 Pro

Professional editions of Windows 10 ship with the Group Policy Editor that enables users and administrators to make changes to the default configuration of the operating system.

Up until now, policy availability was more or less identical for all professional versions of Windows 10. Turns out, this is no longer the case when the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is released.

Some policies contain a note stating that they only apply to certain editions of Windows 10, with Windows 10 Pro not being listed as one of them.

Note: This setting only applies to Enterprise, Education, and Server SKUs

Furthermore, the corresponding Registry keys are not working either anymore which means that Pro users have no option to make changes to features affected by the change.

So imo Pro will basically become no better than Win 10 home edition but cost more.

Is that all, what MS has in mind, LIMITING USER ACTIVITY?!
People will be more and more locked.

If it's this Anniversary edition they are talking about then policy editor is still there right like it was before.
Some of the posters above are misreading the message it appears.

No they are talking about, that some of the policies have been removed from Pro, like the ability to disable Cortana.

Sure, I understand that. Being on the Insider Preview program and all that.
There are still workarounds possible but not through gpedit any longer.

Basically, what it amounts to is that MS wants to be sure it can push anything it catches money for to our W10 machines.
I don't think the IT guys are going to like that.

Wasn't Cortana always hard to disable right from the first editions of W10 ?
According to MS it was/is an integral part of the OS and therefore could not be removed. Well, yeah....Sort of... LOL.

In Windows 10 they already took the Control over Windows Update, so it is not surprising that MS will take Control over Machines in future.
In windows 8.1 and 10 you can not use Drive C: as a normally, it is strong limited.
And the Show goes on.

I run Windows 10 with nothing but Drive C:. Works fine for its purpose. Does not complain. So I'm not sure what you mean here.

I don't even have Cortana on my W10. I'm running a local account and I have disabled all search services. I think it can't function in such environment.
