Fine with me, that's how I do my installs. The only thing I use my optical drive for these days is installing DRM protected games.

Yea, I mean why use a much less expensive DVD disk to store backup software when you can spend more for a USB thumb drive?

Depends on how many DVD's your using. I'd much rather have it all on one thumb drive than 2, 3 or more DVD's. Thumb drives aren't that expensive anyway. Not in the smaller sizes. DVD's are a lot easier to damage too. And just about every PC on the planet has at least one USB port. It's a lot easier to carry a thumb drive in your laptop bag than a bunch of DVD's. It's also a lot easier to redo whats on the thumb drive over and over and over. DVD, burn once, throw away. I will agree, if all you need is one DVD for long term storage it's a good option.Except that the last line of the article kills the whole thing:

Modern flash drives make the installation much faster than the old DVDs.
