Hybrid sleep missing after Windows 10 anniversary update

Hybrid sleep missing after Windows 10 anniversary update

Can anybody explain why and how to get it back.

I go to power options --> advanced settings and under sleep I only get Hibernate after where as before update I got Hybrid sleep option as well.

Please help.

Thank you.

It should still there after the update.

It might be worth checking that your registry entry to enable hybrid sleep has not been changed. The setting for HiberbootEnabled should be 1

Thank you philc43 but I have no way of knowing is hybrid sleep works.

If I use sleep does that mean hybrid sleep is in use?

Actually hybrid sleep is off by default in laptops. Please see the following Microsoft Article which explains the reasons why they do this:

Sleep - turns of pc, keeping all things in RAM - needs some low level power all the time (e.g. battery on laptop). Restart is virtually instantaneous

hibernate - turns of pc, dumping RAM to a file, and Restart writes data back to RAM. PC powers down during hibernate, and Restart takes a few seconds.

Hybrid does both - keeps stuff in RAM, and dumps RAM to file, so Restart is instantaneous, but if power is lost, data on disk is restored to RAM (slower).

For laptops without mains power, sleep is usually perfectly adequate unless a dodgy battery. You will get several days easily out of a modern battery in sleep mode.

I always turn hibernation off on my laptops, and especially on tablets, as the hibernation file takes a fair bit of storage spac.

Whichever you use, it is dumb to rely on sleep etc. - always make sure open files eg in Word are saved before sleeping/hibernating.

So as I understand it hybrid sleep on Windows 10 Anniversary Update on laptops can only be used by using powercfg command from command prompt.

Is this correct or am I missing something?

No, the power option is still there for my laptop. I have pasted the screenshot below:

I do not see it after Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade I only see Hibernate after.

Please can someone explain where I am going wrong.

Thank you.

This would suggest that for some reason your Motherboard does not support it. Perhaps during the Anniversary update an updated version of one of the MB drivers was installed that prevents this function. Very strange!

Edit: new thought - do you have any BIOS setting disabled such as a "Suspend to RAM"?

I have a Windows Surface Pro 4 and there is no setting Suspend to RAM.

Anybody else have some suggestions?
