How to make my netbook optimized.

My Acer Aspire V5|1 is incredibly slow, I tried to do anything to make my Acer fast. But my laptop is still slow. What shall I do?

Get more RAM, disable Superfetch and automatic defrag, disable Windows Defender and use Common Sense 2016 instead, yeah. There are a lot of things you could do. I used to run Win8.1 on an old laptop with a dual core and 2GB of RAM, so I feel your pain.

There's not much you can do with that type of computer HW wise, Most important thing you can do to uninstall or stop from starting all the programs you don't need to use all the time. They all take part of memory and CPU cycles and so my slow everything down.

I would recommend that you add more RAM which will drastically change your experience. Also get a better Antivirus, Defender is shit! Malwarebytes has worked well for me. Try to disable startup applications and clear up memory in your PC. Use CCleaner for this. Also your HDD being severely fragmented may be a cause. Try Defraggler for this.
All in all, Clean out the Dirt!

Malwarebytes is no substitute for full blown AV. WD has evolved in pretty good AV and is much easier on the system than most.

Windows Defender is the only AV that is 100% stable with Windows 10.
I have seen every other AV giving problems with Windows 10.

I would recommend to stay with WD for a while.

Hello John, and welcome to windowssh blog.

If you like, here are some options to use to optimize the performance of Windows 10.

Optimize Performance of Windows 10

Hi, I had the same experience when I first upgraded and had to do 3 specific things. (Below).

Trying to add RAM to a netbook - particularly an ACER (I have one) may not work or even be feasible. I note you have probably 2Gb equipped, good for a netbook. There may be no room for expansion- and ACER insisted mine could not be upgraded although there was room to add another 1Gb- which I tried. No joy. Maybe you'd be lucky...

Have you just upgraded? Is your mouse 'sticky'? In what way is it slow?
What's your idle CPU use %ge and your disk activity?
Could you post a screenshot of your task manager? Details tab, click 'CPU' to organise by highest CPU use first.

I found Windows Defender using a lot of CPU time when I first upgraded, and I had to disable Customer Experience. Also initially my graphics driver was a basic MS driver instead of Nvidia, and that resulted in a very 'sticky' mouse until my driver downloaded and installed some hours later.

For interest: (Win 10, although there's no starter edition as Win 7, can be run on many netbooks, with possible slight drawbacks e.g. graphics cards...)

So I brought my laptop to laptop repair, they replaced the HDD. But it's really slow so the RAM is really the problem.
