Windows 10 is set to be Microsoft's most successful operating system(OS) ever.
The prediction comes from technology marketing company Gartner, which said that Windows 10's popularity is being driven by Microsoft's offer of a free upgrade to Windows 7 and 8 user's.
Gartner also said that 50 per cent of businesses worldwide will be running Windows 10 by January 2017.
If this happens, the early success of Windows 10 would trump even that enjoyed by Windows 7, which launched in October 2009.
Businesses are preparing to move on from Windows 7, aware that Microsoft will end support for the OS in January 2020. Microsoft's latest estimates, released in October, indicates that Windows 10 is now running on 120 million computers worldwide.
Earlier this year Gartner identified another consequence of Windows 10 - a slow down in global PC sales. Analysts said that for the third quarter of 2015 PC sales were 7.7 per cent lower than in the same quarter in 2014. This was attributed in part to people upgrading their existing PCs to Windows 10 for free, rather than buying a new computer containing the OS.

Yeah, because they are forcing it upon everybody...
I upgraded because I wanted to, but yeah, I agree with you. They are pretty much pushing really hard.
I like it and use it, but I too think they are being overly aggressive.

Seen some businesses and especially Hospitals still using Windows XP, get that.
I came back to Windows (from a Mac) because of 10. Having said that, yes they are pushing a bit too much.
What did 10 bring over 8 or 7 that brought you back from the Mac?
Boy if it wasn't for Seal Team 1 showing up outside my door I would still be using Win 7. . .Just hate it when I am forced to use a second rate OS. . .
