Hi there,
I have been having trouble accessing the bios ever since I upgraded to win 10. How can I fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.
@themagicman
If you have UEFI, try this: UEFI Firmware Settings - Boot to from inside Windows 10 - Windows 10 blog
If legacy BIOS, from cold boot (power off, let sit a few minutes, power on), at the OEM logo (like Dell or HP in your case), press F8 repeatedly (tap-tap-tap-tap) until BIOS options appear.
Found this in the user manual for your laptop:
HP PCs - Configuring the Boot Order in the System BIOS | HP® Customer Support
- Turn on or restart the computer.
- While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
note:
The BIOS settings menu is accessible by pressing the f2 or the f6 key on some computers.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I tried that and it doesn't work. When it boots up, it doesn't show the esc key to enter into bios. What else should I do?
It most likely will not show it, you just have to repeatedly tap (not hold down) the proper key (don't think it was ESC). Your laptop manual has F10, but you can try F8. You have to do this BEFORE it gets past the logo screen or it's too late. If you have UEFI, the first method should work.
Try other keys - F2, F12, F8 for example.
That's up in post #2.
Also, try this... let the machine come completely up to desktop. Hold down the Shift key while you click/tap Restart. That may get you booted to BIOS. It will take you to advanced options where you can click troubleshoot and take the option to boot to UEFI.
That worked. I now have access to the bios . I have tried several times and it worked everytime. Thanks so much for your help guys.
Your welcome! Curiosity... which worked?
The shift key and restart
That's not well documented. I found it one day by trial and error. Same trick works to bypass Fast Startup/Shutdown. Shift + Shutdown will do same as powerdown without saving memory to Hiberfil.sys. Just for future reference.
