Hi

I've just installed windows 10 on my laptop. Initially a box on the left hand side telling me about cortana kept popping up so I switched cortanat off. Now the box just keeps popping up constantly, asking me to start typing to search the web or for apps etc.

This is driving me mad. I'm not 100% sure yet but it seems to be connected to scrolling down but also seems to be popping up quite randomly. In the last half hour it has popped up at various intervals from as little as 10-20 seconds to as 'long' as 2-3 minutes. There is no 'close' box and I can't see how to get rid of this really annoying feature.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hi 'lain01', welcome to windowssh blog.com!

Turn 3 off:

Hi Edwin,

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestion however, I have already turned cortana off, but the search box pops up instead and I can't figure out how to stop this. Do you know?

Thanks

Hmmm, my screen looks a bit different to yours and I don't have that option within that window however I did find it elsewhere and have turned it off.

The box seems to have stopped popping up for the time being so I think maybe that has worked, just hope it doesn't start again!

Thanks for your help.

Nope, here it is again and again. Is there no way of getting the "search the web and windows" box off my taskbar and stopping this infuriating thing?

I'm having the exact same problem. I have Windows 10 on an HP laptop and I have turned everything off that I can think of and the search/Cortana box keeps popping up. There doesn't seem to be any pattern just sometimes it will pop up when I'm scrolling through web pages and other times it doesn't. I've gone into my touch pad settings and turned off anything related to Cortana. This is extremely annoying.

hi
not sure this will help but its worth a try.right click on the task bar. from the box that opens up select search, then from the next box select hidden. that gets rid of the search box but unsure if it will resolve your issue

I may have found a solution. Click the start button and select settings. Then select Devices. Click on Mouse and Touch Pad and scroll to the bottom and select "Additional Mouse Options." This brings up a box that should have the information and name of the type of touch pad your computer has. Mine says "Synaptics Touch Pad....". Click on settings and then in the new box that pops up you should see a tab that says "Tapping". Open that tab and you should then see "Three Finger Tap" and "Four Finger Tap". Uncheck those boxes and then click "Apply". That should take care of it. I'm no computer expert so I hope that's easy to follow. So far I've not had the box pop up anymore.

Apparently you can open the Search/Cortana box with a 3 finger click and my touch pad must have been getting confused.

i have the exact same problem and it is so frustrating, please help me lol

i cant believe windows would release windows 10 with this intrusive bug
