My Icons keep going white it's really annoying does anyone know a fix? I posted about this last year and got gave a link to rebuild icon cache. Surely I shouldn't have to do it several times a week, or at all!! I am really fed up with it I'm taking it back to the shop, as the speakers aren't working properly, if I am allowed , I am going to buy a better computer I am willing to go to £450 and £500 at a push. I want it to be powerful for multitasking using spreadsheets, Internet a lot and a bit of gaming so basically what's the most powerful all rounder I can buy at this price. Oh and it would have to be PC World/Currys if they allow me I think they will let me.
Thank you in advance.
The desktop/screen is Dynamic [not Static] and is constantly being redrawn/refreshed and it may not be seen. Most issues with that involves memory, either RAM or graphics. The onboard video adapter uses part of the physical RAM. Most BIOSes have a setting for the amount to assign and I set that to the maximum listed. Windows can take more and that can be checked by holding down the Windows key while pressing R to get the Run box then typing dxdiag and pressing Enter. I have seen where simply clicking once on an icon will cause a refresh and the icons reappear properly.
What have I to do? Could you be more specific about Run dxdiag please. on each tab says no problems found. Which is clearly wrong as my speakers aren't working properly!
Dxdiag can show how much video memory is available, can be useful in determining problems.
Oh right. It's saying everything is OK and it's not. Thanks anyway Berton.
Do you any apps that reside on a locked encrypted partition?
Their icons will show white if the relevant partition is locked
No. But I have the backup partition. Which will be useless to me as it will have 8.5 windows in it. Won't it? As that's what computer had on it when I bought it.
I've had this issue to, but not in the way that my icons (suddenly?) go white. For me it's only affecting icons (shortcuts) I place on the desktop manually/myself. They're white as long as I don't change it (also manually) by right clicking on the icon, select Properties and then Change Icon on the tab Shortcut. Then I have to find the right icon by reffering to the program/.exe file.
Have you tried rebuilding Icon Cache, if not try the methods in this tutorial:Icon Cache - Rebuild in Windows 10 - Windows 10 blog
Are all those store apps?
If so, are those displaying the correct icons in the start menu?
What about the icons of non-store software?
