The Bing homepage goes HD

Here on the Bing homepageteam, we wake up every day thinking about how we can make the homepage even better, inspired by those of you who visit bing.com each day and take the time to tell us what you think. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re adding one of your most requested features high-definition images along with several other improvements.

High-definition homepages to make your screen shine

“Wouldn’t it be nice if the Bing homepage picture had a higher resolution so that it actually fills the entire screen for those with large screens?” – Bing user, submitted via the Feedback link on Bing.com

Yes! We agree. Starting today the Bing Homepage image will be wide-screen and HD. (That’s 1920×1080 pixels, if you’re into that sort of thing.)

New image captions to help you look and learn

We get a lot of feedback about the homepage image, whether you’re trying to figure out where or what the image is during your coffee break or playing a guessing game with your students or children. That feedback inspired us to redesign how we share information about the homepage, by creating an image caption that works a little like the title cards you might see next to a piece of artwork in a gallery or museum. So now you can move your mouse over the Info button to reveal the new image caption and click to learn more or download the image to use as your desktop wallpaper.

Control and customize to make Bing a little more “you”

People generally like the carousel of trending topics at the foot of the Bing homepage, but many ask how it could reflect their interests a little more. You can customize your experience to follow news, stocks, weather, or even track a flight right from the Bing homepage. Learn how at .

And if that’s not your kind of thing and you’re all about the homepage image on your desktop, you can now minimize the carousel completely.
If you’d like to control the size and motion of the Bing homepage, start with the settings gear to customize those elements. High-definition homepage images are big so we leave them off by default in some markets where average internet speeds are slower. If you’re not seeing full HD, you can switch it on in Settings.

Do more with Office Online to get things done faster

At the top of the page, we have added convenient access to the productivity tools of the Office Online suite.

Worldwide availability

The new HD image, image caption, and Office Online menu are available in all markets as of today. In most markets, you’ll get the HD homepage automatically. If you do not see it in your market, you can switch it on via Settings.

Downloadable wallpaper is available in ten markets, while the news carousel customization and minimizing is available in the United States.

Don’t forget to let us know what you think. We love getting your feedback. It helps us make Bing better every day.

Would be nice if they had multi monitor support so it spreads across all your monitors.

Will they be adding this feature to the Bing Desktop app?

Hopefully so.

Thanks, Shawn!

This is all great news and additions. I was going through the Outlook.com link to open that to get to all the others. This is a brilliant, convenient timesaver. All the others look to be great also.

Will they be adding this feature to the Bing Desktop app?
I think they have, although I don't have the best monitor, the pics sure look a lot crisper.
