Need to make network connections private

Hello,
I have tried for 3 hours tonight to get my computer to connect to the Internet at my dad's house and I cannot do it. I have tried many of the tings listed in other posts and no results. I am wondering If I can no longer set up new WiFi spots on my laptop at this point. In the control panel network center I see it says public access. In the homegroup page there is no link to make it private. I have tried to get the command screens to pull the registration entries. They are not found. I see on clicking the blue links in the network center that my computer is set in guest or public, and no button to change it. Please help.

Hi,
Go to Settings, Network and Internet, select Wi-Fi from left pane, click your Wi-Fi and switch On "Make this PC discoverable".
-> Public network

Hello brummyfan,
The area you are showing me does not come up any where, in the area you explained to go to. I cannot upload screen shots from my phone to show you what I'm seeing

Hi,
Do you get the second snip when you click Network and Internet? Could you be able to see the Wi-Fi listed?(second snip), if you can click the Wi-Fi network and you will see the snip in my previous post.

Hello,,
Thank you for your help so far. SO here is where I am at. I looked through everything for your picture It was not there. Now I want to point out I was at my dads house trying to connect. I have since come home and it is working the pictures you showed me are all there. I have no idea why it not work at my dads but it works just fine at home.

You have already mentioned that you are at your father's house. That is irrelevant. What matters is if what is in his second post, second Screenshot, do you see that anywhere in the Network settings in the System window.

As long as your wifi adapter has the proper driver installed, it will show up in the Network settings for what is in the second screenshot.

Bro67, my irrelevant point I was trying to make was when I am at my father's house, it does not connect and will not show me any links to make the connection private. When I am home all thelse links are there and that connection is private. So location does is important as to what I want to see. I have to find out why my laptop does not like to travel. But thank you for explaining to me how to read.

Again it is irrelevant where you are trying to setup a Bridged connection and why you want it. You need to concentrate on following the steps that the OP gave you and if you do not see those choices, that means that either Wifi got disabled in the bios, or the device and driver got removed from Device Manager somehow.

If you can fix the hardware and get the screen that you are showing, that is the very first thing the OP needs. Once you get to that, then it is easy to walk you through the rest of the way and use your laptop to bridge the incoming Wifi out to other devices that you want to connect your laptop to.

Bro67. So my irrelevant point that when I am at home the laptop is fine and the laptop has all the steps it is supposed to have and when I leave my home WiFi all of these things go away is not the point? So what is the point? I think it is very interesting that my laptop works like it is supposed to at home then as soon as I take it away from my home WiFi it does not. I think that is my problem and that is what I need to figure out and fix. But since you are so smart about my laptop and what I need you keep telling me how irrelevant my problems are. It makes this whole thing so much better.

I will get help from somewhere else. As I cannot explain what is wrong and get it resolved. This problem is not solved but I am done with this posting
