Just realised that, since I upgraded from Win 7 64 Home Premium to Win 10, it has not detected the laptop's Bluetooth device. It doesn't even feature as a device in Device Manager ... not even one with a problem.
open control panel then troubleshooter
select hardware trouble shooter and see if it does anything
I'd tried that. It refused to acknowledge that the BT adapter existed.
Eventually searched the web to discover that Dell drivers for the Broadcom BT adapter were never updated to be Win8/Win10 compatible.
Further searching revealed the Broadcom never release drivers to the public ... only to the laptop manufacturers for them to tinker with before releasing to the public.
Much more searching revealed that Lenovo used a "similar" Broadcom adapter - and they have Win8/Win10 drivers.
They installed .... with errors ... but it seems to be working.
I used to be a died-in-the-wool Dell fan. That they don't release Win10 drivers for a laptop that's just 4 years old is quite ridiculous.
I'm having the same problem. Tried installing Dell's BT driver; got nothing. Lenovo's BT driver told me that it couldn't even detect the device.
Well, they do want to sell new computers. It must also be noted that many parts in computers are provided by other manufacturers and the 'brands' and publishers of Operating Systems can only furnish what is provided to them. I have 2 Dell Inspiron 15 Notebooks [3 years old and 1.5 years old] with Bluetooth and Dell provided necessary drivers for Win10.used to be a died-in-the-wool Dell fan. Download the correct Bluetooth driver for Windows 10 from the computer manufacturer's website (if you can), remove your current Bluetooth driver, restart, and install the one you downloaded. If you couldn't find it to download, go to Device Manager and select the Bluetooth device, right click, and click update.
Alternatively, after removing the Bluetooth driver, let windows find the driver for you (within Windows Update)
Here's what I've tried:
Updated BT from device manager, restarted.
Deleted BT driver, downloaded from Dell (manufacturer), restarted.
Installed Lenovo driver (couldn't detect device).
Since I deleted the original driver, none of the others I have tried have even shown up in device manager, even when I show hidden devices. Screenshot below. Before, BT came up as it's own category.
@foshasta,
Is your model of laptop older? Does Dell have Windows 10 drivers for it? If you select Windows 8 from the list of OSes, do you see more options for Bluetooth drivers? How about when you select Windows 7? Did you update Windows completely in Windows Update (thus receiving the recent update)?
