how can I get out of this
screen shows RECOVERY says to insert installation media I tried the latest install dvd from techbench
says to press f8 will not work
it is missing windows/system32/winload.exe I have searched and tried some of the tips on the forum but cannot get out of the blue screen with all the info on what to do.
cannot power off and put the install media in as it will not boot from it.
I would appreciate it if someone has some idea as to how to get out of the screen that is holding things up

Do you know which F key is for boot menu ?
Usually it is F2 or F12.
Turn off computer > restart > immediately pressing E2 or F12 key until you see a windows appears.
If that happens, select the boot order to CD/DVD.
Insert the DVD > restart.
Does it start booting from your dvd ?
If yes, follow the prompts > when you come to "Install now" screen, there is a Repair option, click that instead.
See if Repair can fix it.

hTconeM9userthank you for the help. what we finally did was by turning it then putting the install dvd in the machine turning it back on then hitting f9 repeatedly we finally was able to select the dvd drive and the install started. Never use macrium to move a huge image to another laptop again.

Strange my Dell Inspiron uses F2.
Your Dell uses F9.
And I thought all Dell use the same F key.

Good to know you solve the problem by yourself, without outside help.
Good work. Deserve a rep point.
Happy computing.
