laptop overheating after windows 10

after I upgraded to windows 10. my Asux x550LB laptop is now experiencing noisy and the fan wont stop spinning, overheating in idle mode. I tried Reset and still experiencing the same problem. My last resort is that I would downgrade back to windows 8.1.

My question is:
If I clean install windows 8.1 to my pc. will my laptop still be activated in Windows 10 if i plan to install it in the future? (clean install of Windows 10 using bootable media).

Also anyone experiencing overheating and noisy fan after you upgraded to windows 10? any solutions before I try to clean install and downgrade to 8.1

If your Win8.1 is OEM, then you will be able to clean install Win10 any time you like in the future, so long as you have successfully activated your Win10 upgrade. Your license is held on MS servers

If your Win8.1 is Retail, the situation is the same with one exception. You can install your Retail 8.1 onto a different device and upgrade that instead, in which case you wouldn't be able to clean install Win10 on your current laptop unless you uninstalled off the other device first. ie You can transfer a retail license on to any device you like without restriction, but it can only be installed on one device at any given time.

As for your second question. All I can suggest is to be a can of compressed and blast out any accrued dust from the vents. If you feel confident and have a little technical knowledge then it is best to open the case and blast every last piece of dirt, gunk and dead insects out.

How old is your laptop and the make.
If you have had it for some time then do as the other poster has put before you go back.
How do you know it is windows 10 causing the problem.
I had 8.1 on my laptop and 10 is faster and no lags at all sometimes 8.1 used to freeze when IE11 played up

My laptop is 2years old now. I will try cleaning the fan first. This never happened to my laptop when it was in win 8.1. So i assumed that the overheating and fan spinning is caused by windows 10.

Yes try that before you go back to windows 8.1.
My laptop since 10 installed is running cooler
You will be surprised how much dust and grime will come out when you clean the fan
You can see what I have running in the background on my laptop and it still starts and runs faster than when I had 8.1
Also if you have Avast installed then that could be making it run hot as a lot of other members have said about it.
I have 21 apps looking after my laptop and CCleaner every hour clears up disc space and monitors if laptop was to run hot.

Those pictures are from inside an HP laptop.

I grabbed those pics from an HP page on dust inside laptops. Blowing out the vents with a can of compressed is good. But opening her up and blasting everything out is way better, as it also removes all the gunk blocking airflow through the heatsinks and across the components.

Lol I bet his is looking something like that inside

And the other thing about dust is that also causes a reduction in performance if the CPU and GPU start to throttle back to protect themselves from damage caused by excessive heat. In the worst case scenario it can also cause something to short out.

Many OEM laptops have a utility for controlling the fan, like HP's CoolSense. My guess is, you need to download one for your laptop from it's official support page and reinstall it.

In my case it was Windows Defender running in conflict with my Antivirus. Once I uninstalled/reinstalled my antivirus Windows Defender was turned off!
