Booting issues with w10 machine

Hi

Last year a bought a new machine. I also ordered a w10 copy but when I got the machine it was already installed. The very first night I booted it it refused to shut down with some error (can't remember which one) and I had to use system restore. This happened 3 times in a row so I decided to format and re-install w10 myself. Remember: this is not an upgrade, it's installed from a w10 installation disc.

Before I formatted I had another problem, which still occurs and is where I need help. Sometimes if I power up the machine it's powered on for 30 seconds-1 minute and shuts down automatically. Nothing is shown on screen, no power is going to the mouse or keyboard. Other times if I power it up it stays on but again: no power to screen, keyboard & mouse. This is when I have to reset it myself.
Other times though the machine just boots like normal instantly.

It is very annoying because sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes before I get the normal boot and I get to use the damn thing. Any experiences with this problem and how to fix it? It seems very unlikely to me that formatting it again will change the tide?

First of all, please fill up your System Specs, it will help us to know the hardware and related environment.
You may take help of Speccy if you are not sure about the hardware.

You power the machine up from a shut down, and the power up reacts in three different ways.
  • It gets on for 30 seconds, and then shuts down.
  • It powers on, but not the screen, keyboard and mouse.
  • It boots normally.

And it happens at random.

We need to see what is booting up with the OS. Please upload your system information file.

This is correct, although I must add when it gets on for 30 seconds there's also no power to the screen, keyboard and mouse. In the first two cases I also see no disk usage.

Specs are updated, SIF : timpiej.zip

OK thanks. This is a very nice and informative post.

I see that some of the drivers (like AHCI, mouse) are installed multiple times, which is not normal. I cannot say it with certainty that those are the source of the issue, but that cannot be neglected.

Start with a hardware level check. First of all, make it sure that the power cables are properly working. Check all the plugs and cables. Also, if it is possible, apply your PSU to another system and see if that one is working without any issue.

If your system is using a UPS, make it sure that the UPS is properly functioning.

Next, check the build. Dismantle the computer (no need to remove the CPU right now), and re-seat the RAM, SATA cables, Graphics cards, etc.

Next, Take care of the RAM. Your CPU natively supports 2133 MHz RAM at max; your Motherboard says anything above 2133 MHz is overclocking, and you should not overclock the computer when it is failing.

Set the RAM, COU and graphics card to its system defaults, load the optimized BIOS defaults, and let the computer run.

Next, come to software level.
  • Do a clean boot: Clean Boot - Perform in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts - Windows 10 blog
  • Disable fast startup: Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 blog
  • Disable hibernate: Hibernate - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 blog

Let us know the result upto this stage.

Hi there Arc

First of all, I apologize for not replying on this matter. It's not that it is solved but I was just very busy.

I'm not a compleet newbie at PC's but I've tried deleting the mouse & AHCI through hardwaremanagement. But they would just re-appear again...

As for hardware level: in all cases the PC is running (just nog booting) so I would be doubtful that there is a PSU issue? The power light is on in all cases. I'm pretty ok on software level, but hardware, to dismantle a PC I would need some help. so I guess I better take it a shop then?

Years ago, I had a PC build with a nvidia chipset ASUS motherboard. It had an issue, it sometimes refused to boot. A partial dismantle always made it bootable. If used to clean the edges of the RAM sticks and SATA cables when it refused to boot; and all worked ok.
I know some other users who also had this issue. That is why I am suggesting you for a dismantle. If you need help on it, get it done. At least the interior will be cleaned.

May be the PSU is powering the disks up, but failing to power up the other devices like the graphics unit? So the check of the PSU would also be good; IMHO.

Whenever you will delete Mouse driver or AHCI driver, they will re-appear on the next start-up. Otherwise the computer will not be able to run. May be that is the reason behind the multiple instances.

Let us know about your outcome when you can.
