Mystery icon

Hi. Can anyone tell me what this icon is for? (Top-right)

All the others shown, when mouse-over (hover) present some text info but this icon nothing. I've tried left-click, double-click, right-click ... nothing.

Looks like the Lock Portrait or Landscape Mode icon.

Depending on your machine, it could be a glitch.

It looks like a briefcase
How long has it been on there
Have you tried uninstalling it

Check your startup items in Task Manager. What you're seeing is something that likely starts when Windows starts.

Check your startup items in Task Manager. What you're seeing might be something loading at startup.

These are my startup items, I don't think its one of them.

I also thought it might be 'Location' services but its not quite the same.
Since it doesn't seem to do anything, its just an irritation not knowing what it is.

@finlay -

That's a toggle indicator for what your function keys do. Try doing Fn-Esc and you will see it toggle.

In one state (lock symbol but withoutthe little round symbol in upper right) you get only the F1 through F12 functionality unless you press Fn first - in which case you then get the other marked multimedia function.

In the other state (with the lock symbol havinglittle round symbol upper right), you get the multimedia key functionality without pressing Fn but then have to press Fn to get the F1 through F12 functions.

If you disable the item named "QuickSet" in startup, you'll find the Mystery Icon gone.

EDITED - confused myself a little and edited - believe I have it correct now - in any event you'll get the idea and be able to choose which state you prefer.

When I hover over the icon, I get the text "Multimedia key".

Thanks Word Man, spot on

You're welcome, finlay.
