Lenovo WiFi

I have an ex NSW schools laptop i purchased, its all legal. I am unable to get wifi working. I have put Win 10 on it. When i go to Network and Internet i push the slider over to put wifi on but it immediately slides back to off. I have updated the bios, was doing it prior as well. In bios i am unable to change boot menu as well as a few other things, setting the time etc. The time is 00.00. Any help with this would be appreciated. It is unable to boot from USB as well. It is a Lenovo X130e. Thanks all.

I noticed on a couple of Notebooks I worked on had success in first turning Off Airplane Mode before turning Wi-Fi On would stick. Don't know that is normal but it worked on those. Also important is that most Notebooks have a switch or an Fn plus another Fxkey [or maybe just an Fxkey] to use hardware to turn the Wi-Fi on or off.

Tried the Airplane mode, no difference. On this one it is the FN and F5 buttons but nothing happens when i press them.

Hi there are two tiles on the Action centre you need to have 'on' - both Airplane (Flight Mode in the UK) and the Wifi tile (which may be designated 'Available' with a Wifi broadcast symbol.

You may also have your own laptop's controls - Fn key or dedicated button.

Which model laptop do you've?

Hi, see my specs. A version of their Cosmos IV.
My old one was an HP G60 214EM. Does the hint about the two tiles in the Action Centre help?

Hi dalchina. I have learnt the wifi and several other things are locked out in the bios. I can get into the bios but the password that is needed to change settings is lodged in the eeprom, think thats what it is called. Got win 10 on it and it is running beautifully. Guess i will have to forego the wifi. In the settings when i slide the wifi pin over it slides back to off. The Fn and F5 keys which are supposed to turn it on do not. I guess what i paid for it, which was very little says i cant really complain. I managed to upgrade the bios to current. I read somewhere if i short out 2 connections on the eeprom it cancels what ever is stored in it, dont think i will touch that one. It is a x130e, marvellous little machine, has a ten inch screen which i find tops. Thanks for all your help folks.

Hmm, that's a new BIOS limitation to me.. I thought my UEFI options were limited enough on the cut down one I didn't expect to have on this. Good research in your particular case.

When you boot into bios the default admin password is 'password'
For WiFi i reset my bios to default settings and my wifi started working, but just to warn you it removed the windows boot manager from startup devices. To fix that let it boot to screen where it gives two options of 'advanced settings' and reset.
Choose advance then troubleshoot and then finally select startup(not sure) to boot into safe mood and restart to get back to normal.
hope this helps
