Fax and Scan

Fax setup not responding after Windows 10 upgrade. My computer upgraded itself to Windows 10 and I cannot set up the fax. I got it working with the first upgrade and then it did a critical upgrade and I cannot set it up. When I try it doesn't respond. Thanks and HELP.

Hi, presumably you're using Fax & scan.
Could you be a little more specific in which aspect of setting it up isn't working?
Is this a pure software issue, a modem issue or something else?

Could you post a screenshot showing what you're having a problem with? Thanks!

Hello and thanks for responding. Yes it is the windows fax and scan (scanning is fine through my printer through paperport) the modem is a Coxenant usb cx93010 acf modem and the modem works great on another computer. I have tried everything I have seen on the internet to resolve the issue and not luck. It used to work great until after the windows 10 critical upgrade. Thanks.

Hi, basics: I think it's going to be necessary to separate making sure the modem is recognised from Fax & scan.

When you connect your USB modem to your PC, is it recognised? Do you see any yellow triangles in Device Manager?
Do you get a prompt to install a driver?

Does your other computer run Win 10 build 1607, the same build (Windows key + R, winver)?

In control panel (Windows key + X, click control panel) you should see a Modems applet if there is a recognised modem present. Is there one?

Is there a Win 10 compatible driver for it?

N.B. if the driver is 32 bits, it will not work under a 64 bit OS.

1. Yes the modem is recognized. 2. Yes is it Win 10 build 1607. 3. Yes it sees the modem. 4. It used to work on windows 10 until a critical update about the 26th of September or thereabouts.

Ok, try this:
In C:WindowsSystem32 you should find dialer.exe

Double click it; it will try to find a modem.
See what happens.

So you didn't get an error msg like this?

(I don't have a modem in this laptop).

If you didn't get an error msg, that implies it is finding your modem. Can you actually dial a number?

Note- the best way to post image snapshots is to use the icon above your post text, to the left of the video icon. Mouseover the icon -> Insert image. Save your snapshot as a jpg.

Hello again it dialed just fine and thanks for the help and information

Ok, so that suggests the driver is ok, modem ok, so the issue lies with the fax & scan program or its configuration...

I can't find similar issues reported (maybe not too many people use it these days?). I'll see if I can find someone who has a modem who is willing to try it.
