Hard Disk Converted to GPT format

I have DELL inspiron 5558 With windwos 8.1 and upgraded to windows 10.

Recently i wanted windows 7 and for that i shrink my E drive and from DVD tried to install Windows 7 on that 50 GB unallocated space. But it was showing me that you cant install OS on Windows Cannot be Installed to Disk 0 Partition 7.

I have followed the solution on internet and step in it. Used Dispart command On SHIFT + F10 on Boot screen. and first

Selected the Disk and Then Cleaned it. Then i converted it to GPTusing convert gpt and then exit

They suddenly i realized that it is showing me 931 Gb unallocated space. So for DATA sake i stopped right their and done nothing further that point.

Please if anybody have solution to it... Please suggest me and I want my data back from those partitions before conversion. Help me!

Hi there

Windows can only be installed on a PRIMARY partition. However once you've done CLEAN DISK I'm afraid your HDD is "Cleansed". Data is probably irretrievably LOST -- if the data is really important some specialist *might* be able to "undelete" or "unformat" the HDD.

How many times have I and many others on these boards Urged AD NAUSEAM people to take an image (backup) of any HDD before doing these types of operations -- programs like MACRIUM are 100% FREE, fast, very reliable and you can run from a boot USB / DVD.

To EVERYBODY reading this thread -- ALWAYS TAKE BACKUP OF HDD / DATA before doing any "Destructive" operations on HDD's / SSD's. Even for a 1TB drive Macrium won't take long -- and if you don't want to backup whole HDD at least COPY your DATA even with File explorer for doing any operations on the HDD.

AS a sidenote I've got around 5TB of MUSIC files - created over the years from ripping CD's, archiving BBC Radio programs, music torrents etc etc. Imagine how long it would take to re-create this data - even if I could get all of it back !!! simply re-ripping several hundred CD's would take for ever - even if I have all the original ones left, re-tagging etc etc --NO THANKS !!!! So I have these stored on 1 NAS and another NAS used for backups. Price of a few HDD's is FAR CHEAPER than time to re-create the data or even the data itself.

Cheers

I think you where trying to create a dual boot setup, in which case you needed to create a "New" partition. The new partition is essentially a new HDD with a "New" drive letter.

With windows 10.....on a clean install (not sure on a OS upgrade), your HDD is setup automatically to GPT. Windows 7 requires MBR. I'm not sure if you can dual boot with GPT on 1 partition and MBR on the other partition on the same HDD. (I've never tried it).

Yeah guys wanted to dual boot it
I donnt had idea about MBR and GPT stuff concept of HDD for win 7 and 10

However my Problem is solved
After searching for 3 days Found out Runtime Get Data Back software(shareware) to retrive its back
Used it in trial version and 99.99% data was intact since i have not created partitions of that un allocated space. Find myself lucky in this situation.

If anyone want my help for this recovery steps contact me anf thanks to guys like you who share their skills and knowledge across whole internet to make these problems and their solutions so easy....

Thank once again...Happy I get my data back✌
