Possible to buy the square Intel antenna without buying a wifi card?

This one:

Because my desktop was situated at the other side of the house from the router, I bought what I thought was an official Intel card with this antenna because I knew the longer range and clearance would help. However, once the card came in it turns out while it does have the right mPCI Intel card, the mPCI to PCIe adapter and antennas are very different, and the antennas are the generic short black plastic ones
I did buy it through Amazon third party seller but I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it as the card is still genuine and the adapter has a metal heat shield which I think is good as it bumps up against my GPU, but I had really shitty speeds until I fiddled with the antennas a bit and it's still not the best.

So, is it possible to buy this antenna standalone, or is there a similar one? I don't really want to go for the goofy extra long black antennas, or the bases that look like automotive CB radio antennas. And I'd like fast shipping and for it to be under $20CAD or so inc shipping, if possible.

Thanks.

Go to Communities.intel.com and post that picture, and ask if anybody there knows where to get one. You may get luck. I found this thread there, trying to locate your device, so I know people are talking about it: I need the external antenna |Intel Communities. Alas, I couldn't find exactly what you were asking about. But it seems that if intel made it, someone will likely know more over there than they might over here. Just a thought...
HTH,

Thanks, ...I'll try

Update: I checked with the Intel site and only got an official Intel PR/support who basically said that they don't make antennas and they're all huffy because I bought a 6205 for laptops instead of the exact same 6205 with the official desktop adapter.

So again:
1. Where can I buy one?
2. What is the model number?
3. What is a viable alternative?

Thanks.

The obvious place is eBay. Unfortunately, I don't see any up there at the moment (2243 EDT, 11 October 2016). One vendor sells the desktop card plus antenna for a mere $40US.

I don't see similar alternatives at my favorite online seller (Newegg).

How are you searching? As looking for "the square Intel antenna thingy" or even "Intel antenna" won't get as many resulats as the actual model number which I suspect is printed on the side of it.

Hi there.

Can't help you on the Intel antenna --but what about a BETTER solution (and cheaper !!!).

Use an EDIMAX router in Ethernet-->wifi bridge mode. The Router will connect wirelessly to your main Router via both 5 / 2.4GHZ (or either --user configurable). Connect a small piece of LAN cable from your LAN card in the PC to one of the 4 ports on the edimax router. The router connects with your main router via Wifi.

Antenna on this is fine --will pickup wifi even from quite far away.

You'll get better throughput than via a standard wifi card and you have another 3 spare ports if you need to connect other devices via LAN as well. Useful as well if you say want to connect 2 or 3 computers if testing stuff too.

I'm using one of these for connecting 2 X NAS servers running Linux -- they don't have wifi but this method works brilliantly and the throughput is easily fast enough to serve full 1080p HD TV video to remote TV's etc.

Get the : Edimax BR-6208AC AC750 Wireless Fast Ethernet Router/ Access Point/ Range Extender

costs around 25 - 30 USD / EUR. Instructions are fine - set it up in Ethernet-->wifi bridge mode (in configuration).

Cheers

I already had a TP-link repeater set up for that - when our internet gets shittier it locks up and I have to factory reset it and reconfigure it. No thanks, I'd rather just fondle my pc's new poles until I get a place where I can have the router closer to the pc.
