My acer aspire V3 571-647s laptop Intel i3 with Windows 7 Home Premium, 4.0 GB (3.84 GB) RAM, 500 GB hard drive, has Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter, version 10.0.0.38 , Wed. 02/15/2012 . My network router is Netgear WGR614v10. My ISP is via a Pittsburgh company and I have Internet/VOIP with them.
I have a reservation for when Windows 10 is released. I chose not to take part in the technical preview for Windows 10. Am suspicious about the following problem because I read that Microsoft is prepping computers that have reserved the Windows 10 download when it is released.
Over the July 4thweekend, I put my laptop to bed Saturday night. When I went to use the laptop on Sunday, I had no Internet access. I did usual checks, then started to investigate. Atheros icon in adapters screen is showing as unidentified network. The connection to my router is intact and indicates connection. I am unable to access the Internet on either Firefox or Google Chrome via Windows. I religiously use avast! Internet Security, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware and had just scanned system with all of them on Friday—no viruses or malware.

I went to online router site and found that the wireless connection box was grayed out and restarted that—hoping it would fix the problem. Not so. Tried system restore—laptop gives error message that an old quarantined item from Malwarebytes won't permit completion of restore.
It would take me about 10 or so more lines just to list the links from which I have tried suggestions-- there is a lot of information and help on the Web and on YouTube, but no solution has worked yet.
I will be glad to share the many things I have tried but that do not fix the problem, if you feel it is pertinent to this thread.

(Am sure this is apples and oranges—my Dell E510 PC with Windows 7 Professional which is attached by Ethernet cable to router is working just fine).

Laptop's diagnostic MESSAGES are:
1. Windows cannot connect to hidden network (my network named here)
2. Problem with wireless adapter or access point
3. Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Could it be a driver issue? If so, where do I get the driver?
I looked at Atheros website and no clear cut info available. There was a Czech Republic unofficial Qualcomm Atheros website but I'm leery of downloading from there.

Finally, if I do get my problem solved, I plan to rescind my reservation for Windows 10. After wasting 4 days of my spare time, I don't need more aggravation.
Thanks in advance.

Will try this later today as I have avast! Internet Security. Any other suggestions and solutions appreciated Unidentified network - No Internet access - Windows 10 blog

No idea how that could be connected to W 10, no parts of W10 has been sent to potential ugraders yet. It may be due to some update you received for W7 or your HWSW problems but exclusively on OS you are using at the time.
I'm afraid this case can't be pinned to W10 and that's for sure.

Can you not delete the item in MB, and then try system restore.

Note if MB will not let you do this, then unistall MB which then gives you the option to include delete quarantined, and reinstall

Thanks to CountMike and to hawkman. Unidentified network - No Internet access - Windows 10 blog which I found on another thread in this forum was the solution. I unistalled avast! Premier, then reinstalled it. Problem solved. As per hawkman's advice I uninstalled Malwarebytes and tried System Restore--Malwarebytes quarantine item no longer a problem, but now there's a Snagit issue to resolve that is blocking Sytem Restore from completion of restore. Oh well. Another thread, another day. :-)

Oh sorry, I plumb forgot about Avast, it was making problems like that for me too a while ago. Not using it any more.
