Atheros Qualcomm wireless network driver problem

Hello everyone.
My notebook would not complete installation of Windows 10 due to athwbx.sys problem. BSOD.

This is a driver file found in Windows 8 for the Atheros Wireless Network hardware.
However I am updating from Windows 7 and this file is not part of the drivers required for this hardware in Windows 7. So I cannot install it.
However windows 10 expects to see it I believe. as it does a BSOD on login after upgrading to Windows 10 calling an exception due to Athwbx.sys and will just not allow me to log in. I can get to safe mode though.
I also managed to roll back to Win 7.

Question is how do I get around this. Atheros hardware is AR9002WB. I am using the latest Win7 driver possible for this hardware.
Any ideas?

Steve

Have you tried uninstalling the device in device manager and rebooting. It may well install a proper Windows 10 driver.

Thanks for your response. Device drivers are not installed. There are no windows drivers available for this device for win10 yet. This is a share wireless bluetooth device so there are a number of items left in device manager as unknown devices.

You are correct that thus far there are no Windows 10 specific updates for it, however on all the computers I have updated the Windows 8 drivers work fine. Go here:
Drivers for Atheros AR9002WB and Windows 8
If your running 64-bit Win10 grab the 64-bit Win8.1 INF file download, and if your running 32-bit Win10 grab the 32-bit Win8.1 INF file download (the one at the top of the page is the most recent). It will download as a zip file, which you must unzip (I use 7zip myself). These links don't download an installer however, you must install them through device manager. Right click the windows icon in the bottom left and select device manager. Find your ar9002wb under network adapters, right click it, and select properties. Click on the driver tab, then click on the update driver button. In the dialogue box that opens, choose "Browse my computer for driver software", then direct it to the folder that you just unzipped (probably located in your downloads folder). It should install and give you a message saying it has done so.

And report back to let us know how that works out for you

There is a new Win10 32/64 driver here as v10.0.0.321:
Qualcomm Atheros AR1xxx/AR2xxx/AR5xxx/AR9xxxϵÁÐÎÞÏßÍø¿¨Çý¶¯10.0.0.321 WHQL°æ ÎÞÏßÍø¿¨Çý¶¯ Atheros Çý¶¯Ö®¼Ò

I have been waiting for an updated driver for the Qualcomm Atheros AR5007EG for just about forever. This morning, an update was ready through Windows Update.

YAY! I thought - now, no more unrecoverable BSODs when trying to install a printer.

BUT! Not so fast...

Guess I'll have to wait a while longer......

Don't wait do a manual install

Don't wait do a manual install
uh, not sure how to do that?

@ simrick Like this, download the Win 8 driver from post 4. Here is a quick vid of how @Carsomyr described.

Oh DUDE! You are so good! LOL

I'm sorry - I know how to manually install a driver from a download....but my problem is, I don't know what driver is trying to come through on WU. I tried the driver for W8x32 at Qualcomm ATHEROS Wireless drivers for Windows for the AR5007EG a while ago, and it blue screens my computer. I go into an endless boot-loop/recovery options/failures, and I usually have to recover with an image (although sometimes it lets me use a restore point-not always). I thought WU might have something new for me to try....and you might know how I could get it a different way....
