I can't get MPEG movies files to play on Windows Media Player

I have MPEG movie files from 8 or 9 years ago. They played just fine in Win 7, but now both WMP and Windows Movies & TV will not play them. What can I do to see them again?

Thank you,

TRS

At a guess, you need the right codecs (k-lite basic, maybe). Alternately, use a media player that doesn't need them (Media Player Classic).

Please let us know whether that helps.

I recommend that you install VLC Media Player.

It is free and it will play almost all types of file formats. So, you have little worry about not having the right codecs.
It is widely used and highly recommended.

Side Note : Now that Windows Media Player will not play DVDs at all, VLC Media Player has become more valuable.

I use Windows Media Center for Windows 10. I have it set to play anything I want, even mount ISOs of DVDs I have made as backups.
