DirectX version downgraded to 10.2 after game installation

I have upgraded my OS to Windows 10 which has DirectX version 12.

After upgrading, I installed GTA4 game in it. Now directx version changed to 10.1.

How can I get directX 12 back?

Thanks

You still have DX12. GTA IV only uses up to DX10.1 though.

If you want to check your DX version, open start and type dxdiag, then launch the program that pops up. Keep in mind that DirectX Feature Levels could be lower than 12 based on what video card you have.

I checked directx version. It shows 10.1

GTA4 Installed DX10.1 in my machine. Overwriting DX12

What should I do to get DirectX 12 back in my machine?

Thanks.

What GPU do you have? Does it support DX12?

You can't overwrite directx12 on Windows 10.

You still have directx 12, but your gpu likely doesn't support it.

^ What Hydranix said. DX12 can't be overwritten. It's likely that your video card maxes out at DX10.1.

My GPU is ATI Radeon HD 4830.

dxdiag tool shows directX version 10.1.
But i heard windows 10 has DirectX 12.

When I installed GTA4, a popup window shown saying 'installing directX'. So i guess it's been overwritten.

The max version of DirectX supported by your GPU is 10.1.

Win 10 natively has DX12, but your GPU cannot. As a result, you'll only see what your GPU supports.

Thanks SylenThunder for the good info.

That mean My system has DX12, but it shows only 10.1 in dxdiag.. good.

Is the same happens with everyone?

The DX version shown will depend on your video card. Those of us with cards supporting DX12 will have DX12 shown in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, for those not supporting DX12, it will show the highest DX mode the card can support - in your case DX10.1

BTW be aware that just because your OS is capable of DX12, doesn't mean games will run in that mode - in order to achieve that, you'll need an OS capable of that (Windows 10), and both a DX12 capable game and video card. i.e. Win 10 + DX12 game + DX12 GPU = DX 12 gaming experience. Anything less and the game will default to the lowest DX mode available. See step #6 in my game troubleshooting guide here - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

Hope this helps.
