OK - some progress - I can log in to windows with the admin profile . Went into control userpasswords2 and it says I can;t change the password for my username ? ideas . Please

looks like windows is not using my profile . Anyway to point windows 10 pro back to my correct profile ?

I do see my profile on the drive . With Win 7 , I knew what to do .... lol ....

Do you have a backup you can use? If you have it turned on a System Restore might work. If that doesn't work maybe you could copy your data from your old user account and make a new user account and install the data from your old user account.

No, not that weird really. It's all to easy to accidentally switch from a local account to a Microsoft account without intending to. Microsoft would prefer you to use a Microsoft account, so make it (too) easy to switch you to one if you ever use it from within your local account. It's easy enough to change back...

All to easily, I'm afraid...

Recently, however, we discovered a super annoying way that your local user account is automatically and without your permission converted into a Microsoft account: when you first log into the Windows Store on your new Windows 10 PC your local user account (say “Bill”) gets switched over seamlessly to whatever email address you use for the Windows Store (say “bill@whythehellwouldyoudothismicrosoft.com”).
