Making Windows Mail notifications work consistently

Does anyone know the minimum I need to have set to "on" to get mail notifications to work consistently with action center? Is it possible? Yesterday I got it working pretty consistently and I thought great but today it seems to work only occasionally. I've read this is common.

I have a live and outlook email account. I have them set up on the mail app and both are set to allow a banner notification in the settings on the mail app. I also have in Settings/System/Notifications and Actions/Show notifications from these apps/Mail set to ON banners and sound.

I also have the Mail app as the default.

What else beside this in Settings/System and Settings/Privacy do i need enabled to get Mail notifications to work reliably?

I have Thunderbird which gives me notifications but I don't like to leave it on and would like it if the notifications could work.

Hello Tom,

It sounds like you have it covered, but you might double check using the tutorial to make sure you got it all.

Mail app Notifications - Turn On or Off in Windows 10

In addition, double check your sync settings in the Mail app to make sure that it's downloading new content (emails) as often as you wanted.

Thanks Brink I'll check that out.

One thing I did not do is to turn on mail in background apps because it is not listed there.
Is there anyway to force it to get listed? Thanks.

I do have calendar there and I keep that "on" since it seems they work together but no Mail app is listed.

Yeah, the Mail app keeps being added and restore to Background Apps as a separate app per build lately. The Calendar is indeed part of the Mail app, so hopefully it includes both.

Okay, i noticed in my friends pc that he has Mail listed in his background apps.
I decided to uninstall Mail and Calendar through powershell and then reinstall to see if that would help. How do you get it back?

Windows update would not give it to me nor would going to store and checking for app updates.

Do I update manually looking for the app?

Okay, duh, i see that's how you do it. I'll see if this helps, at least put mail in background.

Okay i reinstalled mail and calendar through the store and now mail is showing in my background apps. I set it to on and it is working.

Mail is not showing though in System turn on notifications but I'll keep an eye out for it.. maybe there is a delay?

Edit: It has now appeared in system and it is on and it seems to be working good.

Thank you!

Great news.

Actually, it's still not consistent. It gets one, doesn't get another. Strange.
I'm using a local account btw.

Now I changed the default mail app to thunderbird and now Mail notifications is working consistently again.
Strange.

It's never consistent for me either.
