Windows Update updated in latest internal Windows 10 Redstone builds

Internally, Microsoft is working on a number of features and changes coming to Redstone that are not currently present in the latest public preview builds. One feature Microsoft is working on improving is Windows Update, and in the latest internal builds of Redstone these improvements are now beginning to show up.

The latest internal builds of Redstone allow the user to customize “active hours” which is when you expect to be using your PC or phone. So for example, the user can set active hours between 5AM and 11PM, meaning Windows Update will not try to install and restart for any updates during that time. Only between 11PM and 5AM will your device try to install and restart updates.

There are internal builds that only Microsoft testers see, and public builds Insiders can see. It all depends on what Ring your on. There are Rings Consumer Insiders don't see and can't select. Only select Microsoft employees have access to the internal builds.

Looks like they might actually be listening to feed back. Being able to defer updates so they are done when your PC is idle, and not while your working, will be good.

One improvement that would make this update system really first class would be to be able to reboot and re-logon again automatically so for example if you were running Media servers and your system would shut down / reboot after an update you wouldn't need to logon again to re-start the services. These could easily run from Boot without a user even being logged on.

If that poses too much of a security risk couldn't some of these service be re-started again without you even having to logon again - after all to use a media server (PLEX for example) it shouldn't be necessary to be actually logged in to the Windows system hosting the service. Similarly with some VM's you might be running from your Windows machine. These could easily run as Background processes which could be accessed from a remote laptop etc without you physically having to be logged on to the Host machine.

Meh. That might be good for people who don't actively keep up with updates and rely on the auto function of WU to do it. I rarely get one I don't go looking for.

I do believe there are a great many people who do just that. The issue for many is the auto reboot when the time comes and potential lose of work in progress.
