Yes, Windows 10 runs great on old hardware

Can you run Windows 10 on a PC that's eight years old? Oh yes, and it runs spectacularly well.

Internet-based keyboard commandos are fond of making claims that are built on nothing more than a guess or prejudice. One such claim that I've been coming across regularly is that Windows 10 is a total pig on older systems and should be avoided at all costs because otherwise you'll run into all sorts of problems.

Well, I just happened to have an old system lying about, so I decided to install Windows 10 on it just to see what would happen.

First, a little bit of history about the system in question. This is a PC that I built back in January of 2008. For its time, this was a pretty high-end system, featuring a 3.0GHz quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor, an Asus Maximus Formula board, and 8GB of Crucial RAM...

Windows 10 System Requirements - Microsoft

Interesting article.. thanks for sharing.

I've not had problems installing Win10 on computers that came with WinXP but to get the free Win10 I did have to upgrade them to Win7 w/SP1. Same for Vista machines, just finished a Gateway M-series Notebook, devices all work.

I put W10 on aweakVista laptop, runs great.

I fully agree with that conclusion, I have win10 insider running on a 12yr old laptop, and runs it better than the XP that was on it.

I also have it on a 2003 power edge server box, no complaints here

This is nice, but I'm not finding that Windows 10 is really setting any precedents here. 8.1 also runs well on old hardware. It surprised me more in that department than 10 has.

Windows 10 System Requirements - Microsoft
I always though the issues people had were driver based rather than hardware based ?

That guy's 'old' system is still decent specifications now and way above what the minimum listed requirements for 10 are.

I would like to see windows 10 run on Pentium 3 with only 128 mb or less ram installed.

Is there a list of processors that it won't run on?

well i had an old laptop Compaq presario V6000 series bought it 2007 with specs like that:
Processor : 1.86 GHz Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2350 featuring Intel® Centrino® Level 2 cache 2 MB
Memory : 2048 MB (2 x1024 MB) DDR2
Hard Drive : 250 GB (5400 rpm)
Multimedia drive : Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support
Display : 15.4” WXGA High Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800)
Fax/Modem : High speed 56K modem
Network card : Ethernet 10/100BT integrated network interface
Wireless Connectivity : Intel® Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g Integrated Wireless LAN
Bluetooth® wireless networking
Sound : Altec Lansing® speakers 3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated
Operating System : Windows 7 pro X86
condition : very good but for the last 4 years i didnt use it much

based on that article i decided to install windows 10 pro X86 on it, it is working very good, what a great surprise
