Hi guys just new to the forum but have a recent issue with my system. I am unable to use the right click option on my Start menu button. I am ok right clicking the taskbar that works fine but will not work on the start menu.
If you mean the list shows but is unresponsive, then same for me.... was working before the Anniversary Update, now search and run work but the others don't.
I tried sfc/scannow and DISM repairs but reported everything ok
I found the solution.. Solved Right click start button - some links do not work - Page 2 - Windows 10 blog
it's been discussed before, I downloaded the utility that Dalchina used in post #16 , works perfectly, mine was J river context menu
Try your other right
Sorry couldn't help myself from saying that
One of my computers is 8 or more years old and running Win 10 and some things either take forever or don't work at all
Nothing appears (no menu) when I right click the start button also Win X does not work or show and sub menu. I have tried restarting explorer.exe and I have run sfc /scannow to no avail! Any other suggestions would be welcomed.
I had this exact problem after I installed one of the insider builds before the AU update came out. Unfortunately I can't fully remember how it was resolved, and it has only ever happened once. I know for a fact a restart didn't fix it. I think I had to revert to my previous build, and the menu worked again. I then wasn't offered the build which had failed, so I just waited for the next one. Are you running an insider build?
This has also been a problem for me over the last few weeks - left-click on start button works fine but right-click doesn't. Same thing happens with using the keyboard - pressing the Win-key button opens the left-click start menu option, but Win-key plus X does nothing!
I've tried loads of 'so-called' fixes including 'SFC/Scannow' and also downloading 'ShellExView', from Nirsoft, and disabling all non-Microsoft Context Menu handlers, but they all fail to solve the problem! The strange thing is that this is what happens on my desktop PC, whereas on my Laptop, which I updated to Windows 10 at the same time, including the AU version, both right-click on start menu and Win-key plus X both work fine!
This is getting to be exasperating - Help would be much appreciated... thank you
It's disappointing not receive a reply here? Am I really the only one with this problem?
Have you tried c:UsersDefaultAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsWinX (copy the three folders here) c:UsersAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsWinX (use them to replace the three folders here) Then ctrl+alt+delete task manager right click Windows explorer and select restart.
This happened to me last summer when I first upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. I finally figured out I had a corrupted user profile and nothing could fix that profile. The only thing that worked was to create a new user profile with a different name. The new profile had a working right click menu. I the moved all my files over to the new profile and deleted the old one.
