Trying to install either win7, 8 and 10 onto a new build.
Motherboard = Gygabyte Z170 Gaming K3 (Skylake platform)
No, reading a good few websites i need to add an updated set of drivers to either the USB stick when creating an boot usb media
or i believe win 10 has these already in the setup files? (can somebody confirm?)
anyway, no matter what i've tried, i can't get any OS to see the HDD

I had a similar problem when I installed my SSD, I had to unplug my other drives for the installer to see and use the SSD.
i only have the 1 drive plugged in.
just found this from a REDDIT post
- Boot into a live linux system (with GParted or similar tool), I had ubuntu 14.04 ISO lying around. I won't instruct you on how to build a bootable USB stick with linux (I personally use DriveDroid on Android).
- Once in the live system, open GParted and create a new NTFS partition of at least 4.5 GB.
- Right click on your new partition in GParted and select "manage flags" and tick the "boot" checkbox.
- Now (still in the live system) unpack your windows 7 ISO onto the new partition
- Reboot out of your live system and unplug your USB disk.
- Depending on how many sources and partitions you have, you might have to change your boot order to boot from your new partition, and your Windows 7 install should begin.
When installation is complete, you can delete your 4.5 GB partition.
I'm just making a ubuntu usb drive to see if this works.
if not, i've another new HDD to try, what a PITA this is
i find it strange that even installing win 10 from a new downloaded ISO still gives me this problem
i thought it was only a win7 problem???
An alternative to try to get a completely clean install is to try Kyhi's recovery drive from a USB flash drive or CD/DVD:

Read my quote in the middle of the op of that thread for more info. If Kyhi's recovery drive recognizes you HDD/SDD, then you can just run setup.exe from a Windows 7 or 10 installation media - or just mount a Windows 7 or 10 ISO file and run setup.exe from that. Then you can clean install to a completely blank hard drive.

today, after trying a ubuntu & mint distro, both didn't get anywhere in running live.
i used a win8 disc, still couldn't see the HDD due to requiring the right drivers.
did a repair with the win8 disc and then on my next reboot/install it seen the system reserved partition and the un-allocated drive, but.......
i now get this message (which is a step forward)
Select Drive options (advanced)to enable more options on the screen and delete all the partitions, install to the unallocated space and let Windows create the needed partitions.I now get this message

i've even the gigabyte cd that came with the MB in my other optical drive, when i browse for the drivers and point it to the cd, it can't find any
finally got it!!!!
BIOS setting had to be changed.
XHCI Hand-Off had to be enabled
