How do I update from Win10 32-bit to Windows 10 64-bit?

Hi guys, I had a friend who installed Windows 10 Pro 32-bit operative system on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS, it wasnt until this day (2015/08/26) that I noticed it on my Laptop. Have you any advice for me on how to upgrade or update it to 64-bit without erasing or formating everything??
All comments are appreciated!
Regards,
Bralle9

Hello Bralle9,

I'm afraid that you will only be able to clean install to go from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows.

Windows 10 - Clean Install

If this was for the free Windows 10, and the 32-bit Windows 10 is not activated, then you will need to install and activate your 64-bit Windows 7 Pro first, then upgrade to 64-bit Windows 10 Pro to have the free offer activated.

Alrighty, gonna do a back-up drive just to be safe and do a clean installation!
Thanks for the comment!

The similarity of the user interface tends to hide the fact that internally 32 and 64 bit operating systems are VERY different. Microsoft has never supported an in place upgrade from a 32 bit to 64 bit OS, of any version. A clean install of the OS and all application is the only way.

In order for me to do a clean installation I would need to have the 64bit media installation program but since I cant open the 64bit program I am basically stuck..

You can download a 64-bit Windows 10 ISO directly using OPTION ONE below.

When I have downloaded them, do I drag the .Iso files into my flashdrive or do I need to do something special in order for them to work?
Btw, I download both the 36-bit version and the 64-bit version as the site recommended.

You can use RUFUS to create a bootable USB stick from an ISO file.

But, if you use the Media Creation Tool, it has an option to download the file and create a boot USB stick for you.

You can use an option in the tutorial below to create a bootable USB from the ISO.

Alright fellows, I will try to install Windows 10 Pro 64-bit now by using the RUFUS to make the Iso file bootable. Wish me luck!
