Hi, I'm new here and am posting this in the hope it may help others.
I had what seems to be a common issue after upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10, where the PC (desktop) could not see the network/router. I do not have any VPN client installed and it was not a WiFi issue so most of the post going around were not helpful.
I did notice that the upgrade had "disabled" my install of Zone Alarm Pro firewall, it seemed to have just randomly stuffed about with it by deleting the exe file but leaving all the folders etc in the programs folder.
So, I found a post on a Lenovo forum that pointed to a MS article that said to check for third party network services:
Run command line using cmd.exe as admin
Run netcfg -s nto check any 3rd party network services through this command.
Normally the built in network service starts with ms_
Then use netcfg -v -u <network service name>to uninstall it.
This found:
ms_ndislwf Zone Alarm Firewall Driver
Which I uninstalled as above and my network connection was restored.
I haven't seen anything about this on the Zone Alarm site but didn't look to deeply.
HI dave
many thanks after about 20 hours of pulling my hair out and doing various fixes etc to win 10 found your blog and uninstalled zonealarm in win 7 and reinstalled win 10 for the 4th attempt and it works many thanks again correctly on upgrade.
My symptoms were same no internet upgraded drivers removed programmes etc. last night in win 7 removed all traces of zonealarm and installed win 10 this morning . It appears zonealarm when upgrading to win 10 does not migrate over correctly.
Glad to hear it helped someone. I also found out after that that Zone have a "clean" program you can download which removes all components of their product. I also think you can get their Win 10 compatible upgrade free and probably a good thing to apply that in Win 7 before the upgrade.
no thank you without your blog still be trying to fix it
