Service pack 3 trying to download on Wndows 13i

My current laptop was purchased new last October, loaded with 8.1. I upgraded to 10 on the first day of its release, and ever since then I've been getting notifications for Office XP Service Pack 3. It has failed each time I try it. Windows suggests doing a web search for "Office XP Service Pack 3 - Error 0x80096004" for possible help, and I do find some results that MIGHT be helpful. But I can't understand why Windows 10 is trying to install an XP update on a machine that has never has XP on it.

Has anyone come across this issue?

yes, same damned situation with my two Lenovo laptops now running Windows 10,
and that idiotic error message about unable to install an update about office XP service pak3.
got the same-o response when my lp's ran 8.1.

Microsoft is off on this one and needs to do something about it!!!

Worked for me by downloading for Windows 10 the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package.
Office XP Service Pack 3 - Error 0x80096004 has disapeared.

Je suis "happy"

Good luck

That was a naming convention 'screw-up' of Microsoft with the naming of Windows XP and Office XP, tried to tie them together. If you have ANY portion of Office XP on your computer that can be identified as part of Office XP/2002 such as PowerPoint Viewer, Word Viewer, Excel Viewer, etc., it probably is picking it up and offering that update.

" I have a clean install of Windows 10 and XP Service Pack 3 is trying so much and failing to install that I have also reached my data usage limit . Is this needed and if not , how can I stop this download 50 times in one day.

Hi, see this thread on the same page which should stop such attempts to update.

However, if you want to use that feature, you may need to find any part of Office (e.g. a trial that you installed...?) that remains that is triggering that and remove it. E.g. and Office clean up or manual uninstall tool, or Revo Uninstaller if you can find any remaining exe file related to Office.
