How to lock computer after display turns off ?

I used to have screen-saver set as 'none' and 'on resume, display logon screen', and set the time there the same as the 'display off' option in 'power options'. And that works fine on a PC, no issues there.

Now I started using a laptop, and it has different 'display off' times for 'when plugged' and 'when unplugged', and different display off times for different 'power plans', so I can't use that trick any more.

How can I do 'lock computer when display off' ?

how about CNTRL-ALT-DEL and then hit enter?

Ctrl+L locks the computer. Here is another way: Lock Computer - Add to Desktop Context Menu in Windows 8 (context menu)

enable/disable lock screen: Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

Require password sign-on: Password Protection on Wakeup - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

change lock screen timeout period: Lock Screen Timeout Period - Change in Windows 8

If I missed your question, it is because I didn't quite understand it (my fault!). Please rephrase and I can keep looking for something to help you.

PS the tutorials say Windows 8, but should work fine in Win 10.

I think that's Winkey+L.

That's what works on my Windows computers.

I know what Win+L does. I'm using that sometimes, but I don't have a habit of doing it when I leave my computer, so I need that to happen automatically.

Currently, I have it set so it 'locks the computer' after 5 minutes, but on 'power saver', I have 'turn off display' on 2 minutes. So this is what happens. After 2 minutes pass, it turns off the display, after 5 minutes pass it locks the computer. I do have. If I work on the computer after 3 minutes pass, I do see the 'lock page', but after it goes up, I see directly the desktop and am not prompted to enter the password.

I want something to 'lock the computer' when 'display goes off'. I have 'turn off display' on different intervals.
2 minutes - power saver battery
5 minutes - balanced battery
5 minutes - high performance battery
10 minutes - power saver plugged
15 minutes - balanced plugged
15 minutes - high performance plugged

I want 'lock screen times to be the same:
2 minutes - power saver battery
5 minutes - balanced battery
5 minutes - high performance battery
10 minutes - power saver plugged
15 minutes - balanced plugged
15 minutes - high performance plugged

I think that's Winkey+L.
Haha! That's what I meant. Oops.

Mate, just set the computer to require password at the same time as the display turns off. This may be what you're looking for: Password - Require after Display is Off in Windows 8.1

There is no 'password policy' in windows 10.
And editing the registry is not something I want to do. There'll be a problem is I ever want to disable that.

It is the only method I know of to do exactly what you want it to
