Photo recovery

Greetings to all!

I apologize in advance if this question was supposed to be placed in another forum (software/applications?).

I edited a picture on picmonkey.com, when I was finished I clicked the "Save File to Computer" button, but it did not appear to save the file. I hit the download option, and the FireFox DownThemAll window appeared, and seemed to save the file. Now, after looking for an hour, I can't find the photo. I think the photo is recoverable because after it was downloaded it opened automatically in Windows Photos App, but I did not save it from there, as I assumed it was already saved to the PC...

If anyone could guide me on how to recover the photo, I would be grateful!

Thank you in advance!

P.S. I've already tried browsing through the Photos App, using File Search, using recovery software and checked recently opened files in Quick Access.

Try 'Search' if you know the name of the pic file. Otherwise, open 'My PC'. Input .jpg in search box then go to 'Date Modified' drop down and select 'Today'. Or, in the folder search box, enter- .jpg datemodified:today

Thank you for your reply!

I tried what you instructed, but it's not showing up. I know the file must be stored in some temporary location if I was able to view it with Windows Photos App. I've looked in the temp directories (C:/Windows and Users/AppData/Roaming), still no dice

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Check Firefox download page, maybe FF blocked it.

Hey Edwin, thanks for the response!

I'm actually using WaterFox (FireFox variant for 64-bit) and using DownThemAll (built-in download accelerator/manager). DTA apparently doesn't show a 'recently downloaded' list unless chosen from options, I had mine disabled...

Looks like it's gone then lol...

Thanks anyway!

Hi ozzy7,

Just a thought, but what about repeating the same thing with another image and see if you can follow the path? However, from reading through this thread, it does look as if it's gone, but just an idea.

The Windows Photo App is probably showing you just a thumbnail of the photo.

Save File to Computer gave me the dialogue box option to save the file in my browser installation folder. Very strange!

The download option, in my case, was a normal dialogue box to save to the specified/default download folder of the browser. In the OP's case, it should be what is specified in the plugin extension DownThemAll preference setting. I am going to assume the setting is not to display the image with a selected program, but to actually download the image and save it on the computer.
