Wonder if anyone could help.
Switched on a friend's PC today with Windows 10 fully updated (upgraded from Windows 7 around a month ago), and it loads to where the login screen should be ie after the Windows 10 logo etc, but then the screen is blank. There's no mouse pointer, no login screen, and no monitor error (ie there's a source at least).
I've tried booting in safe mode but I get the exact same problem. Also I've tried just typing in the password to see if the login screen has been moved to a non existent monitor, but that doesn't work either.
Any ideas before I make a recovery USB to take to their house? I'd rather see if it could be fixed without having to scrub off all of their apps.
Thanks
I had this happen recently on my Toshiba laptop running Win 10 Pro X64. I pressed Alt+F4, the combo on this compute that switches the screen from the laptop to an external. Apparently it had decided to switch itself to the external screen and pressing Alt+F4 switched it back and all was well.
Scary though. I thought I hit one of the dreaded black screen problems.
Hey thanks for the reply, but that would only work with laptops since the screen switch button is usually on the F4 key, otherwise ALT-F4 closes the application. There's no login appearing at all right now. I had my friend leave it on for about 4 hours and nothing has happened during that time besides a blank screen. No cursor, no CTRL-ALT-DEL, no login, no nothing.
I had the same problem it worked after updating the Bios to the latest version and has started normally every since I hope that helps
Hmmm might see if I can try that then. It's not a very old mobo but it can't hurt to update the bios and see if that helps, thanks.
Sorry, bad info. I meant Fn+F4, not Alt_F4.
Yeah I got that, but since there's no FN key on desktops I assumed F4
Sorry probably should have mentioned in the original post that it wasn't a laptop.
I still have no idea what the hell to try.
What about trying Windows Key + P? Normally it brings up this menu:
Try Winkey+P then press Enter?
Try Winkey+P, down arrow then Enter?
Thanks, I'll try that when I go there tomorrow to have another check, although it doesn't even get to the login screen so I'm doubtful I'll be able to select the display. I'll have a go though!
