Samsung Hybrid HDD & ExpressCache - cannot find partition

I recently installed Windows 10 on my Samsung Series 7 Chronos (NP700Z5A-A01DX).

The HDD is a Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 which I originally thought was a hybrid HDD with 8gb ssd partition, but I'm not 100% sure.

Anyway, with Windows 7 the computer came back from sleep in 1 or 2 seconds, now it's much slower. I've followed all the instruction online for reinstalling ExpressCache etc. but I get the error message "SSD not fund, please create a partition manually".

Running DISKPART, List Disk I only have a one disk showing. (750gb, Drive 0)

Any thoughts?

Hi,

The HDD is a Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 which I originally thought was a hybrid HDD with 8gb ssd partition, but I'm not 100% sure.
AFAIK that's a regular HD but your laptop comes with a caching SSD (probably Samsung? ) of 8Gb in size which doesn't seem to be connected in your system somehow.

Can you check in the bios of your machine ?

Cheers,

OK, since I was last on here I have reverted to W7 and found that my SSD is stillnot found. Checked in BIOS and it's not there either.

I have now re-installed windows 10 (because if I'm doing battle, I might as well do it with W10). I've opened up my laptop to see if I could locate the SSD, but I couldn't find it. It's apparently soldered to the motherboard. Is it possible it's just died?

It would seem strange to die at the same time as installing windows 10, but in my experience you can'talways
rule that out.Do I just have t accept that I'm not going to able to run express cache? Could I buy a hybrid SSD and replace the current HDD, then run express cache on the ssd partition?

If I wanted to regain my fast load up from hibernate - would buying a hybrid SSHD (such as Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD) Hybrid 8GB SSD 3.5 Hard Drive ST1000DX001 PC/MAC/Linux - Scan.co.uk) work?

Hi,

Could I buy a hybrid SSD and replace the current HDD, then run express cache on the ssd partition?
I doubt express cache will work with any brand of hybrid drive but that's just a hunch though.
Does it even work under Windows 10 ?

Windows 10 Boot Time on Samsung Series 7 Chronos SLOW!

Why not use a SSD and an external HDD for mass storage ?

Cheers,

Do you think an SSD would be as quick for boot-up and wake up from hibernate as my old 8gnb Expresscache drive was? (1second from sleep).

Hi,

There's no reason I can see why it shouldn't be.
In fact, the entire system should be a lot faster and limited mainly by SATA III limitations.

Cheers,

The hard drive model that you listed is not a hybrid drive,it is a standard laptop HDD.What you were seeing in windows 7 was a small cache drive installed on your laptop that made booting very fast.I doubt it was visible and configurable in any way, since the optimisation was generally carried out by the os.So far many laptops equipped with expresscache do not have the feature available under w10 due to licensing issues(condusiv is licensing per unit and per OS,that is one license for w7,one for w8),if I am mistaken please correct me.Also, the only company producing standalone expresscache products is sandisk.
