I am an 82 year young person. I have windows 10 on a Lenova desktop computer. I just downloaded Driver Support software. In my control Panel, I list realtek. Is this a redundant system with Driver Support? If so , can I just delete realtek?? Thank you

Not sure what you mean. Realtek is the company that has lots of hardware, such as onboard sound cards, Ethernet and Card Readers. If you have any of those on the computer I wouldn't delete the drivers as it would stop the functionality of the device.

I recommend not using 3rd party driver support software. Some are good, but some are programs that can put viruses on the computer. It's always recommended to get the drivers from the lenovo support website or download the latest drivers from each individual vendor.

I recommend not using 3rd party driver support software.
Ditto!

Third party driver advisors are snake oil in most of the cases; and sometimes harmful.

If you are not sure how to get the driver updates, here is your Driver Support: Device Driver Automatic Installation. Just turn it on and forget about drivers.

And, most welcome to TF, aviatorex1.

By using the internet, They recommended using a company called Driver Support to update my drivers. I successfully downloaded and installed this software. They were listed as a top company in providing this service. In my control panel list of programs, I noted I had the Realtek software installed. Does realtek and Driver Support provide the same type of service.
If so, I should delete realtek???? If realtek provides a completely different service than Driver Support, it should be kept???
Therein lies my problem. I do thank you for your response and await your response to this post.

Hi aviatorex1.

Realtek provides mostly two of your onboard devices, LAN and Audio.

The Realtek in Control Panel is the HD audio manager. Dont delete it; dont delete anything about Realtek.

Realtek is a must to have in order to have proper functioning.

About Driver Support, you will not need it. But if you want, you may keep it.

Who recommended you to use this software? There are a bunch of scammers out there lately sending emails or having pop-ups show up saying Microsoft recommends you call someone or install software. Microsoft would not send emails or pop-ups to encourage users to install 3rd party apps that could potentially harm their OS.

A friend of mine at work had an issue where he had a pop-up that said Microsoft recommends calling CapslockITservices to resolve his computer issues. It then costed him 200 dollars for the service, and now they constantly want to remote connect to his computer, even without his permission. That's an easy hack job for them to where they can steal personal information and pretty much lead to identity theft. Never respond to pop-ups that recommend you to do anything that involves calling a company or installing software.

Realtek programs are required for Realtek devices and should never be removed unless they are causing problems.

Your driver support software should be uninstalled if it didn't come from Lenovo or Microsoft.

Hello to Iamaneke, Thank you so much for your responses. They really are appreciated. I am a former engineering Test Pilot so there was a time when my brain functioned quite well. Unfortunately many of those brain cells have disappeared with age and today's technology is, in many cases, a mystery!!! Regards, George

Thanks, and I like helping when I can. That is way cool. I bet that was fun back in the day

Some fun, some danger but I am a survivor!
