Some settings are managed by your organisation

At the top of the Windows update page there is a red line stating "Some settings are managed by your organization".

There *IS NO* organization managing this device! This is MY computer, there is no domain it belongs to, *I* own it, *I* manage it, *I* am the only "Administrator" on this device and no-one else has a say here (modulo Microsoft and any potential virus....), so what is this BS-message trying to convey to me?

M.

Hello, usually this rather confusing message means you - or a program- has changed some settings.

Changing certain Privacy settings can do this, or using programs like
Spybot Anti-Beacon
or
O&O ShutUp10

If you search this forum (search box at the top) for
"Some settings are managed by your organization"
you will find a good number of threads.

Amongst those already solved you will probably find sthg to help you.
(Searching can be good for you!)

In principle I fully agree and I normally *do* search for error messages or possible keywords before appending. But this forum's search seems broken and never yields anything. E.g. I just did again exactly what you suggested and copy-pasted this thread's title into said search box and clicked the looking glass: Result: zilch! Zero! Nada!

However I can't recall a case where this message ONLY appears on the Windows Update screen- and indeed now that I've lost the old Windows update (which I mysteriously had) I've found have this too, and it means I can't set this I I used to be able to do. And depite researching fixes, nothing I've tried so far with the gpedit.msc has proved helpful. Hmm.

Suggestion 2 I found fixed 'Some settings are managed by your organisation..' on Windows update Settings dialogues.

Suggestions found:
1. Go to "Settings" -> "Privacy" -> "Feedback & diagnostics" -> "Diagnostics and usage data"; if it is set to "Basic", change it to "Enhanced" or higher, and the message disappears.

(Didn't work for me)

2. This solved it for me:

It appears to me that you installed some miscellaneous "Telemetry Blocker" software/tweak which is why you're finding options blocked from configuration.

This is typically done through "Group Policy".
Press [WinKey] + [R] and type gpedit.msc

In the window that appears, follow "Computer Configuration" then "Administrative Tempates" finally right click "All Settings

Select "Filter Options"

"Change the drop down for "Configured" to "Yes". Untick the check boxes if any are ticked."

Press OK

I found setting Managed, Configured, Commented - all to 'Any' removed the message.

@dalchina #2 worked. It filtered a couple of settings I changed, which I reverted back, and behold the "Some settings are managed by your organisation" went away from Windows Update, and I'm able to get preview builds. Thanks for the info : )

Please mark as solved.. thanks!

Why should I? Neither suggestion worked for me! Still seeking how to get rid of that msg.

Hi

Try this - it worked for me - Im a windows insider and I changed the slider for slow and fast ring to release preview - it caused the "some settings" message - changing it to slow ring worked for me, I think I had to reboot after I changed the setting.
