64 Bit doesn't seem to be as popular with AV programs as I had hoped. But does anyone know of a good one that is currently mainstream and rated (somewhat) highly?

As far as I know, the only pure 64-bit AV is Windows Defender, all others are just 64-bit compatible.
So part of the reason I ask is because I was looking mainly for performance increases. I saw a couple tests that put defender lower in the performance (speed) category.
Though Defender it is likely the moststable, I found Avira and have been trying it out, but wasn't quite sure if I could pull a better AV out of the hat. It is only 32 bit. Does it really make a difference?
So while I would appreciate adequate protection, I mainly need this computer to be quick, as it is my designated 'beast' bot.
I think I still have defender up on my easy laptop with a casual Mbam.
In theory 64-bit is supposed to be better, but in reality, 32-bit is usually faster, simple because it is supported and developed more. 64-bit is more complicated to code and talking about security, non-Microsoft developers have hard getting around patchguard, so they just cheat their way around it.
DustSailor: Avira IS a 64-bit AV, like all the others if installed on x64 OS. It really can't be any other way, due to compatibility and security requirements. All the heavy work it's done by 64-bit drivers(real-time protection, hashing etc).
Sure, most of the executables and libraries are not 64-bit. Why? Because most of them don't need to consume gigs of ram, while using all the extra cpu registers in manipulating large integers. You don't port everything to 64-bit just for the sake of it, more so when you have to maintain x86 support. So the gui, updater, scheduler etc part of the AV are perfectly fine (and even slightly faster) on x86.
Sorry, guess I saw it in the (x86) programs folder and didn't check the other one and assumed. If it works, it works. It does look like one of the faster ones, with not too many false positives. I think I saw Avast! as rated higher, but didn't want to bother with signing up like last time. Are you sure the free version is semi-64bit?
