Petra, how about giving us exactly what you do with the computer. Do you game, encode video, do 3D modeling, CAD work or just run office and other normal apps? Tell us if there are any other special requirements you need. Knowing what you will be doing with it will help pick out the right parts. Also, give us your budget.
Do you think you can actually build one yourself? There are several options for a custom build if you don't think you are up to it.

I was told by someone in this forum that building a system for home use is mostly snapping parts together, the trick is knowing the correct parts, now I don't believe a build is quit that simple.but I think I'm up to it. You do know I will be asking you guy's a lot of questions, for you guy's/gal's they will be simple and I'm looking for people who are up to teaching, and I know I have found the people I want to learn from. This computer we just cleaned will be dedicated for my college classes. So, putting that behind and going forward the new system will be for home office,gaming, surfing,storing picture's,video's, maybe movies of grand kids, etc. I would like SPEED a new page should populate in ms at least most of the time on the web. One of the better graphic cards. Some thing that can push a sound system, HD moniter and tv,a high refresh speed. I,m hoping Gig a Blast or something like that will be here soon. As you guys/gals teach and I research,learn and ask questions I realize this will change and I will be compromising as we look for a balance. Money--Maybe around 15h-2k as of now that's just a guess. I can't buy parts until the end of June which gives me a 3 week head start on research . I will probably build better that clean..

When I built my current PC I only needed a screwdriver and the other parts snapped in place. The mother board.. power-supply require a screwdriver. The rest snap in and if you have an expansion card for a graphic card you'll need the screwdriver to secure it to the case.
The thing to keep in mind is I have lots of experience working with PC hardware so this was not a hard task for me. But, in your case I don't think this is something you should do. You're best bet would be to buy and OEM model or find a shop that builds custom PC's. You can get the part list here and take that to the shop and have them build it.

There are plenty of how to videos on youtube, building a computer requires a lot of research beforehand and watching videos on how to build and reviews of individual components.
A useful website is Pick Parts, Build Your PC, Compare and Share - PCPartPicker. It will say if components are incompatible and it'l also give you the total wattage of your build so you know what power supply to get.
HI Peter. Yes, you need to watch those videos essenbe posted for you - that's the first step. You'll be able to decide if you can indeed build it yourself, or if you want someone to build it for you.
