One thing I miss is the start menu

Overall I love Windows 10 however there is one feature that I really miss from the Windows 7 start menu. In the Windows 7 start menu if you had an application visible in the start menu when you hovered over it you would see a list of the recently used documents for that application on the right. You could even pin a couple of items to the top of that list. I found this list very handy to open a document I was working on recently and I kept my page templates tend to the top of that list. I haven't found a way to do this in the Windows 10 start menu. Is there a way to do it that I just him found or is this one of the features that's missing?

Try Classic Shell. Not sure it will give you everything you are asking about.

I've tried Classic Shell but really don't think it has any advantages over the menu system that comes with Windows 10.

If you are talking about a MRU (Most recently Used) list then right click on the icon on the Taskbar.

That's more what I was looking for a little you still have to have the application already open to see that list (or least have it pin to the Taskbar). But I was referring to from Windows 7 was the basically the same thing but you can have just in the start menu and when you hovered over it you got a list of recent places like places documents. Action apart I miss the most is where you could pin certain items to that list so I pinned the templates I used most often in word.

Thanks for sharing!

If you're running the latest Build you should have Start Menu Jump Lists, mind you, you have to click on them.

I didn't realize that, thanks for the information. However there is no way to permanently put programs in that area, it always displays the most recently used. In Windows 7 you could permanently pin program there, such as Word and Excel. Also that I know of, there's still no way to permanently lock certain files (templates) to the top of that list.

Now if I could just figure out how to get Word, Wordpad and Excel permanently pinned to the top of that list! Instead of having the list change however Microsoft wants it to. Also it would be very nice of you had this option for items you had pinned to the start menu!
