Win 10 x64 doesn't boot as fast as win 8.1 x86

I have a dual boot setup with the above-mentioned OS versions.

I upgraded win 8.1 x64 through the versions to win 10 build 10240. Boot time from the OS selection screen is much longer on win 10 before the logon screen appears. Win 8 seems only a couple of seconds for the lock screen to appear but win 10 seems to be about 30 seconds.

Any way to speed this up?

For me it takes about 20 seconds to fully boot up. Do you have many apps/programs that are starting to run when you boot up??

I dont mean full boot up I mean from OS selection screen to lock/log on screen. There shouldnt be any apps loading in this time.

Programs and services start loading long before the login screen is presented.

All drivers loaded in 10? Any yellow marks in Device manager?

For a true (or as close to true as you can get) test, do a Cold boot in 8.1 then in 10. Time those, they should be much closer and 10 should actually be a bit faster.

On the Dell Inspiron 537s, with a Intel Core Duo, 4 GB RAM, that I am now testing 10 on. 10 boots faster on that box, than 8.1 does on my Laptop with an AMD E1 CPU.

I do not have anything installed on the test box, other than the OS. Because I had to wait for a monitor to come in today.

Personally I am liking the Desktop interface on 8, better than what they did with 10.

Until 10 goes live. I am leaving the test box at OS only.

Did you make sure in System, that you unchecked the delay box?

That could be why you are having the delay. Even with the delay off on my laptop. The desktop is still faster.

my system is very fast to boot into windows from a cold start, between 6 to 8 seconds. it is also fairly fast when doing a complete shut down, around 9 seconds. but it is extremely slow to restart (compared to earlier builds (14 secs)), which is somewhere around 28 seconds. the major reason for this is the failing to close several apps after clicking restart. those same apps don't seem to have a problem closing on a shut down, only on a restart.

Uncheck the option or set for 0. Also check what starts up in the background, by looking at the Task Manager and Start items tab.

yeah.. my 10 months old installation of win 8.1 boot 6 seg faster than a clean installation of win 10.. is funny lol I have fast boot disabled.. Always, even in win 8.1. i'm in 10240..
