I do not even know where to begin. I have had so many problems with windows 10 so far that I am already sick of the OS. About a week ago I built my first custom gaming PC every single thing on it is running great. Installed windows 10 got all of the drivers downloaded and installed correctly and everything is smooth, but I've had one serious problem. I can not connect to the internet. Let me start off by saying this. This has nothing to do with my Internet provider, my PC(any part inside of the PC), or any of my drivers all of those things are working perfectly. I am on windows 1511 update which I did a clean install off of a USB drive from the ISO on Microsoft's website. The first error I got like many others was that "windows sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing" I fixed that problem by taking some old winsock files from 8.1 and importing them into my registry to fix the connection. I thought that had fixed my problem until I got my next error which had not shown before. It now says "Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration." and says The default gateway is not available." Before anyone says to do a IP refresh and renew Ive done both of those things and I get a DCHP error while running a IP renew through Cmd. I also checked my DCHP client and it says running. This is all after my 3rd clean install of windows 10 onto my new PC. If anyone please has a fix let me know asap so I can get onto the Internet. Ive been dealing with this for so long now. -Thanks so much!
Hi 3spencer3 and welcome to windowssh blog.
I assume you've got a router assigning the IP addresses in your LAN, yes? And other devices connect to it without issue?
I would try logging into your router, and assigning a static IP to your ethernet adapter's MAC address; see if you can connect that way.
Hi yes all other devices are connecting just fine. How do I log into my router?
Search for the user manual for your router model. Usually, a web page address of 192.168.1.1 or something similar will get you in. The instructions will also have the default username and password to use - which, BTW, you should change, for your security, to prevent unauthorised access.
The first thing you need to do is run the command prompt and run ipconfig /all.
This will show you your network status/IP numbers.
What is your IPv4 address, Default Gateway, DHCP Server, DNS Servers?
