check for updates

when I click on search and type "check for updates", or "windows updates settings", I can't open the result. I click, and nothing happens.
But if I go to "settings", and then to "update and security", it opens just fine.
What is the matter with "check for updates", and "windows updates settings"?

I have just tried it via ask me anything
Think you have to type in as I did

It will then work
But I always use

Update and Security

when I type I n, check for updated I get the system settings.. in both browsers ,IE and Edge

Hello shmu26,

If you like, here's a Windows Update shortcut that you can use to make it easier to "Check for updates" as you like.

Windows Update Shortcut - Create in Windows 10

How I did was nearly like yours Brink
But clicked on Settings
Then Update and Security
Then Right Click Windows Update
Asked me was I sure I wanted a short cut
Clicked YES
Resized it
Then Pined it to Start

seems to there must be an issue with there search if it don't show system setting the way mine does, or am I missing what the OP is asking

Shmu26, what version of Windows 10 you are running, 10240 or 10586.nn?
You can check that by right click on the Start Menu, then selectRun and type in winver.

I am running Windows 10 10586.71 the search returns result in Settingand when I click on the Settingselection, it opens fine!
Have you add any 'System Utility Program' to your environment?
