Hi all,
So I've been struggling for a while with KB3093266 not installing, and now KB3097617 won't install either.
They download and do the install prompt, then restart. But upon restarting, it says the updates have failed and reappear in Windows Update. Tried the standard troubleshooter, and by resetting WU to no avail. Any advice would be helpful, thanks!
These poorly checked CU are very very finicky. I had a lot of problems with the second to last CU (3093266). As they are cumulative forget about that one. You need only 3097617. It will update as needed. Other people here have said that.
There is a thread about problems with KB3093266. Many many people had trouble and there are a lot (too many!) work arounds. Best thing to do next is find that thread on this forum and check carefully. If nothing helps post here again. I will try to help you out, but no promises of success. Good luck SpiralZero!
BTW: This is an on going problem even for people who just have a default windows install with no tweaks what so ever. It's disgraceful that MS release these broken. What's worse, there is usually no kind or reason (error note/or popup) to explain why.
Even the event viewer was useless in my case. In fact 90% of the time its total crap. What the hell is the point of having an event viewer that lists errors in one catagory, but gives a highly technical and generally useless info.
I do like W10 when working properly, but it's riddled with bugs. Still beta IMHO. I used to like MS. Now they just make life difficult.
I also have this problem on one of four pc's. 2 desktops and 2 laptops. The 2 desktops were upgraded from win7
the 2 laptops from win8.1. The desktop with the problems is the only one that has a fresh install of win10. I have
tried several fixes but none work. I believe the problem is with the fresh install of win10. Upgraded pc's work fine
fresh install does not. Are the users with problems also after fresh install? Any info may help
I had problems a while back. I just upgraded windows 10 with windows 10 choosing to keep files and programs . It preserved all but 2 of my apps and fixed the issue.
Mine was a fresh install. I would reinstall to be fair, but I've moved my user folder off my SSD by using the script during installation - so I have no idea if an in place upgrade will even work or mess up my user profiles :/
