How do I force Windows 10 to search for new updates and install them?

......and keep me informed of the process. As used to be possible in previous versions of Windows.
I want to see which patches have been installed and which ones haven't. I'm having misc. problems that I think are likely to have been addressed in later patches. I installed Win 10 off an old DVD from 2015 so it should be due lots of patches.

To check what updates have been installed, or have failed to install open settings > Update and security > Advanced options > View your update history

From what I've read here on the blog W10 does a cumulative update, meaning all things needing an update/patch are done every time you update. Ideally you would have the most recent updates and OS version/build after updating.

While you're in settings click System > About to see what version and build you have, the most recent for W10 Home and Pro are version 1511, OS build 10586.494. I've included a screenshot snip of mine below:

Thanks Steve! My PC is on a lower build than you. The last 3 digits in the build number ar 318, the others are the same. I just want it to run the updates so I know whether that will solve my problems or not.

You're welcome Hannele2, you being in the UK I can't be sure what exactly is the latest for W10 UK edition. I'd think it is the same as here. I can't remember what the exact number was before 10586.494 but I don't think it was 318.

About the only way I know of to check for updates is in Settings > Update and security and click the "Check for updates" button. If it comes back with no updates available, then I guess you're up to date.

There is an update coming on Aug. 2nd that's been mentioned on this forum, supposedly it's quite an update, with numerous changes and improvements.

Here is the list of Windows 10 updates.

Jim

Followed CmmTch's instructions and got Windows Update working.

That's great! Is your W10 up to date? And what about the miscellaneous problems, have they cleared up?

If everything's all good now, please mark the thread solved, and see you later

How does the update in win10 works actually? Its not updating at all ever since 1 week ago when i started using it.

Thank you Hannele2, for marking the thread solved

gradeabra, here's a tutorial explaining windows update and how it works, you can always check for updates at anytime. If you've got more questions and/or problems, please start your own thread. That way you'll get responses for your individual issue.

P.S. Hannele2, you might look at the tutorial, may answer some of your questions too.
