has anyone found any use for cortana ?

i'm using a desk top without a mic and all i can see is that its an overhyped search and its kinda lousy at that !!
I can do the same thing it does with my yahoo search ...what am I missing ?

you don't miss what you don't know

I would not even consider "talking" to my computer, at least not in a traditional manner.
If computers were to finally be used in a day to day environment I might be tempted to say: "lights on" or "close curtains"
but to talk to my laptop and / or desktop seems not just silly but also very disturbing to my co-workers.

Cortana is a nice try and if you are in your car trying to get a route to your next destination, talking is a very good option.
For now.... I would not consider the usage other than as a gadget

Good luck

NO I stopped her running 30 mins after upgrade all she does it take up your CPU.

On my system "she" uses a whopping 2% of my CPU and 32 to 40 MBs of RAM while "she's" open, otherwise "she" uses 0% CPU.

I'm sure she was using more CPU than that but the ram looks about right however I don't see how letting something that you are never going to use take anything from your system.

In fact now that you have brought this up I am not even happy that her folder is taking up 64mb's of my hard drive I'm going to delete her completely.

It's good for scheduling events/appointments in the calendar app on Windows. "Hey Cortana, add doctor's appointment to my calendar for September 3rd at 1pm" is about as specific as I think you can get. If you have no use for that or the "Remind me" command then no I don't really see Cortana as all that useful yet. If you keep the weather and such apps out of your start screen/menu then it might give you a quicker way to find that stuff out. It's a pretty decent app launcher I've noticed though.

I love using 'Cortana' Just using your Voice She can take you within one Click of the Web Page that you are looking for, without the need to open your Browser and Type.

'Hey Cortana Top Ten Singles on YouTube'

And 'Bam' She takes you straight there.

Yes mate If people have a use for such a app I'm sure it's great, it's just a shame you can;t say Hey Cortana shut yourself off and don't use my CPU or RAM until i click you back on.

I lied, "she" bumps up CPU usage to 4-6% when "she" first opens, within seconds it drops to under 1%, and some reason "she's" using about double the RAM as my first look.

Well the main thing is are you going to use her and if not turn her off, although turning her off don't stop her from running, you have to stop her from running, she's like a nagging wife on your cpu and ram although you have your ear plugs in you can't hear her but she is nagging in the background using up your cpu and ram.

She can be deleted completely in safe mode by taking ownership of her folder.
