Desktop and images share the same system folder...help!

How can i seperate these folders without a fresh windows installation?

I made a video showing the problem.

If I right click - properties then move the location of the folder, both folders are also moved. They stay 1 folder.

Help would be appriciated!

Not following. Everything when you log in will and should be under your Username folder. Anything that is system related should still be in their default locations, unless you tried to change the layout of the folder locations.

i have tried to change the layout to move all files to my other drive.
However for some reason the desktop and images folder are now merged.
If windows saves a image to the images folder, it will appear on my desktop.
If i make a new shortcut on my desktop, it will appear in the images folder.
They show in "This PC" as 2 folders, but they are both linked to one and the same folder.

Moving folders to another partition or drive will mess things up. If you have not told the OS the location of those directories that should be on the same drive, you are going to have issues.

This is a fresh installation, nothing is linked to those folders yet.

However i managed to solve them after looking on the web for about an hour that deep in the register you can forcibly change the folder path of those user standard folders.

I used the above when my SSD (C) (with operating system) and (D) storage DDR became 'unlinked' somehow!

After the anniversary update the links were corrupted even though the files/folders were in the correct places.

For what it's worth, I'm no expert!

The reason that everything changed when you installed the Anniversary Update, is because it is a new version of Windows 10. It reverts everything back to the original settings as Microsoft wants them to be. You have to be really careful when changing things with Windows. Otherwise you will end up breaking the OS. It is not as forgiving as Linux is with Symbolic Links to folders in different partitions on different drives.

Thanks for your comments.
Luckily my PC builder is always at hand...when he built our two desktops the 'This PC' and the actual folders were all on the SSD on one of the PCs. It came to light early when one of the SSDs showed faulty and he changed both.
I was instructed to move the folders to the storage disc which was OK.
Unfortunately on the W 10 upgrade then the anniversary updates that PC reverted to the original configuration and I had to move the folders each time.
The other PC doesn't suffer from this particular build problem.
Thanks again

This article explains how to relocate folders the normal way and how to use the Registry to check & correct them [I wrote the article because I had made the same mistake as you].
